86 Cannon Hotel Charleston

Rainbow Row in Charleston

This post is an update to my original Charleston Travel Guide. While I've visited Charleston five times both on girls trips and separately with Pete, this was Laura's first time to visit the charming southern destination. So this blog post has become an amalgamation of all of my trips giving you the very best travel tips. Do you have any favorite spots in Charleston? To me, you could go numerous times and still discover something new!

I went to Charleston, South Carolina for the very first time in late October 2019 with my dear friend Lisa C. and I am absolutely in love. Not only is it rich in history -  the food, people, shopping and sightseeing are top notch. Cobblestone roads, gas lanterns, waterfront views and flowering window boxes could be some of the reasons why Charleston ranked as the number one 'Best Little City' in Conde Nast Traveler for 2019. It's a peninsula surrounded by the Charleston Bay, Ashley River and Cooper River and it's a walking town so bring your walking shoes!

Pete and I went in 2021 to discover this beautiful property on Mount Pleasant so those recommendations are included below as well. It's definitely worth exploring especially if you are heading that way to spend some time on the beach.

If you want the short version of our 2025 Travel Guide, be sure to click HERE for this Instagram recap of our most recent trip in July 2025. And click HERE for our hotel review of where we stayed. It includes room tours of the rooms we stayed in at 86 Cannon.

Charleston Travel Guide | 2025

Where to stay

Pool at 86 Cannon, Charleston

Piazza King room at 86 Cannon

On our 2025 trip, Laura and I stayed at 86 Cannon, a luxury boutique hotel with only 10 rooms. It's such a beautiful hidden gem in the Cannonborough/Elliotborough district, beautifully decorated by a local Charleston designer, that you feel like you are staying in someone's carefully curated home. Owners Marion and Lori Hawkins put their heart and soul into this enclave and it shows. Daily breakfast and happy hour with personalized gourmet cheese board and wine are included. It's walking distance from shops and restaurants. It's spread out over 5 small buildings and has a beautiful pool. They also have free bikes for your use. We highly recommend it!

Also of note, Hotel Bennet (also great for rooftop drinks), Wentworth Mansion (be sure to check out the spa), The Charleston Place, Planters Inn, Two Meeting Street Inn, Zero George, The Vendue Hotel, Hotel Emeline and Francis Marion Hotel.

In 2021, we stayed at The Beach Club Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina. Full details can be found HERE.

Where to eat

Vern's Charleston.

Dinner at Vern's

Chubby Fish.

Chez Nous Charleston

There are so many amazing restaurants in Charleston that you will never have enough time to get it all in! We always make a lunch and dinner reservation.

2025 list: When Laura and I travel together, we like to order lots of dishes and share. On this trip, we took the recommendations of the owners of 86 Cannon and let them guide us on our reservations as well as trying to get in a few new spots. Our tip is to book you lunch and dinner reservations ahead of your trip and be flexible with changes once you get there. We had dinner at Lowland (from James Beard Award winning chef Jason Stanhope) which was excellent. I just  love how restaurants in Charleston tend to be older homes that have been repurposed. So charming! Be sure to book Chez Nous for a late lunch. It's a small European restaurant and the chef changes the menu daily. Chubby Fish for dinner is an absolute must! This is 2024 James Beard Finalist chef James London's hot spot.It wasn't on our radar until the we talked to the hotel owners. Chubby Fish only serves dinner and they do not take reservations. The restaurant opens at 5:00 PM. TIP: Line up before 4 PM to put your name on the list for that night. Laura and I sat at the bar to overlook all the cooking in the kitchen and the Sous Chef was next to me. He answered all of my questions without hesitation and it was one of the best experiences we've ever had! Be sure to visit their bar next door - Seahorse. This time we did HUSK for a late Sunday brunch. And that evening we had one of the best meals we've ever had at Vern's. This is a hard reservation to get so be sure to plan ahead. Get the charred sourdough bread - you'll thank us later. :-)

Here are other restaurant and bar recommendations from my past visits. Pop into Blind Tiger Pub for a cocktail and snack. Sit outside if the weather is warm. The Grocery for dinner - delicious, organic fare. We went to Marina Variety Store for breakfast and it's a true delight. Lots of locals hang out here. Chez Nous is a quaint little house that converted to a lovely restaurant. It's really hard to get a reservation and I would say it's because the restaurant is tiny. Halls Chophouse for Sunday Gospel Brunch. The food is excellent and the singing is divine. HUSK is a lovely mansion converted to a beautiful restaurant. The bar is in the house next door. Be sure to have a drink over there while waiting for your table. We ate dinner outside on the front balcony and it was beautiful weather. Lunch at 82 Queen. Eat outside if the weather permits. Be sure to order the shrimp and grits - so good! The She Crab soup and Bloody Mary are divine!  Dinner at F.I.G.(Food Is Good) - this was my favorite meal and dining experience. We did not have reservations so we showed up right when they opened at 5 PM. TIP: Sit at the round community table in the front and make new friends. We had the most delicious meal and fun conversation that evening! On our last day, we had lunch at Fleet Landing which overlooks the water before departing for the airport. It's one of the few restaurants on the water.

In 2021, Pete and I spent more time on Mount Pleasant and we got to explore restaurants on that part of the island. We ate dinner at The Fish House which was at the Charleston Beach Club. Since 82 Queen is one of my favorite restaurants in Charleston, we had a lovely outdoor lunch there. The newest hot spot at that time in Charleston was Tempest. It won Best New Restaurant from USA Today. Lunch at the The Obstinate Daughter on Sullivans Island is a must. In fact, I wish we would have had more time on Sullivans Island. Be sure to get reservations at Savi Cucina & Wine Bar. It's not the best drive up appeal but the food is delicious!

What to do

Aiken-Rhett House Museum

Delores' Southern Delights at Charleston Market

Laura and I wanted to tour a house that has been preserved so we chose the Aiken-Rhett House Museum. The tour is self guided with audio guide and an excellent way to see an 1820 house. There is definitely a difference between preserved and restored. This is the former house of Governor and Mrs. William Aiken and was in the family for 142 years. If you have time, be sure to tour the neoclassical Nathaniel Russell House Museum. It's circa 1808 and has been restored to show you the decorative and fine art of the wealth in Charleston's elite families. Both of these house museums are run and maintained by the Historic Charleston Foundation. You can buy a single tour ticket or a combo ticket and see both.

In our past visits we went to tour a plantation. We chose to do the Boone Hall Plantation which is about 30 minutes away. UBER will take you and pick you up. There are several plantations within a 30 minute drive. Fort Sumter is rich in history and a must see. The first shot of the Civil War occurred in Charleston and is told at Fort Sumter. TIP: Take the 2:30 ferry (last one of the day) and you will be able to participate in the lowering of the flag ceremony. I'm so glad we got to do this. Your total time will be about 2 1/2 hours including the ferry rides. Tour the Calhoun Mansion and see old Charleston in its glory. Charleston's largest private home has 35 rooms and is over 24,000 square feet. It was built in 1876. Also, there are a lot of churches, parks and waterfront walkways to explore. You can rent bikes anywhere and explore Charleston. Also, many people recommend doing a historic walking tour of Charleston.

Where to shop

There are lots of great little boutiques in downtown Charleston. Be sure to check out the Charleston Rice Spoon (pictured below) at antique shops. I even included the history behind it. Fascinating!  Be sure to check out  the high end boutiques like Gucci and Louis Vuitton, Croghan's Jewel Box, Hampden Clothing, Finicky Filly (this was my favorite shop), Christian Michi and Lake Pajamas.  The Charleston City Market is worth a walk through if you are looking for local stuff like soaps, sweetgrass baskets, artist drawings, tea and much more. The stalls and vendors are there daily. Delores' Southern Delights was our favorite!  King Street is where you want to explore shops. Just walk around and enjoy all the antique shops - simply fabulous!

Of note, we were lucky enough to be there on the 2nd Sunday Market Day which was really fun. It's on King Street and they block the road to make it a pedestrian outdoor market. Lots of local vendors and food. You'll find musicians on King Street entertaining the shoppers.

What to wear

Tanya at the pool at 86 Cannon Hotel in Charleston

Charleston is very relaxed and casual. It's surrounded by water so be prepared for humidity. It was warm and around 75 degrees daily but definitely hot in the summer. It's good to have a jacket for dinner/evening. We only wore casual clothing and didn't have any heels with us. We took an Uber or walked everywhere. I highly recommend good walking shoes. You will easily get your 10,000 steps in daily! Click here for our Packing List to make things easier for your trip.

WHEW! We got a lot done in four days! I highly recommend a trip to Charleston and can't wait to go back. What should I do next time?

xoxo - Tanya

P.S. Below are pictures and recommendations from past visits. Be sure to check out this post about what we packed for this trip.

I hope you’re soaking up every bit of this beautiful summer. Even though we’re well into the season, triple-digit temps are about to hit Texas—so that means white is definitely still in style! (And let’s be honest—I wear white well past Labor Day.) Today I’m sharing some of my favorite white fashion pieces for summer and beyond, plus how to style them now and transition them into fall. Also, for everyone already thinking about Halloween decor, please pump the breaks!

A Must-Have: The White Maxi Shirtdress

One white piece I cannot get enough of is this white maxi shirtdress. The classic button-down front and oversized cuffs give it such a refined, effortless elegance. It’s a timeless silhouette that you’ll wear year after year, and it's easily a summer-to-fall staple. I love that this dress is so versatile. Wear it with sandals to a summer lunch, or throw it over your swimsuit as a chic cover-up on your next beach getaway. Once fall arrives, add a denim jacket and neutral booties to instantly transition it into the new season.

I’m wearing a size 6, but could have sized down to a 4 for a more fitted look. Also, think about wearing it as a long jacket or duster over some white jeans and leaving it unbuttoned. So chic! Don't like an all white dress? No worries. This dress comes in 9 other colors/patterns and they have it in sizes 00-18. Truly versatile!

How to Accessorize White in Summer

To elevate your white looks for summer, I always recommend white accessories—yes, even with a white dress! Here’s what I reach for:

White heeled sandals – These are my go-to for dressy events during the summer. They elongate the legs and go with just about everything. They come in four colors including a beautiful nude! A bit pricey but well worth the investment!

White straw clutch – This instantly gives your outfit a polished, pulled-together vibe, whether you’re headed to brunch or dinner by the beach. Also comes in a nude wicker.

Don’t be afraid to mix different shades and textures of white for a sophisticated monochromatic look. Think: eyelet, linen, straw, cotton, and leather—all in creamy, clean white tones.

More White Pieces I’m Loving Right Now

If you’re looking to refresh your wardrobe, now is the perfect time to invest in white staples you’ll wear into early fall. Below, I’ve linked more of my favorite white summer fashion finds that are perfect for the heat, but can easily transition into the next season. Want more inspo? Shop more chic white pieces HERE for stylish all white looks.

Tanya Foster's Charleston packing list

Last weekend, Laura and I traveled to 86 Cannon in Charleston and it was a fabulous time. So if you’re planning a trip to Charleston soon, we have you covered. It's one of my all-time favorite southern cities. With its pastel-colored buildings, cobblestone streets, beautiful gardens, and incredible food, it’s the perfect weekend getaway, especially if you love warmer weather and coastal charm.

But what do you wear in Charleston, especially when it’s hot and humid? You want to look cute and polished but stay cool and comfortable. Today I’m sharing exactly what to pack and what to wear. Whether you're brunching on King Street, heading to Sullivan’s Island, or enjoying a rooftop cocktail, this packing list will help you dress the part without overpacking. We were there four days and three nights and had just the right amount of clothes. Don't worry, our full travel guide will be out soon so you can plan your itinerary!

Charleston Weather: What to Expect

Before we dive into the fashion, let’s talk weather. Charleston is hot and humid in the summer, mild in the winter, and nearly perfect during spring and fall. Here’s what you can expect seasonally:

Spring (March–May): Highs in the 70s–80s, cool mornings, blooming azaleas everywhere. Great time to visit!

Summer (June–August): Hot, humid, and sunny. Temps in the high 80s–90s with lots of sun. Afternoon showers likely.

Fall (September–November): Gorgeous. Think cooler temps, less humidity, and beautiful sunsets. Another great time to visit!

Winter (December–February): Mild, with highs in the 50s–60s. You will need layers.

What to Pack for Charleston

Here’s your Charleston packing list with everything you’ll need to stay stylish and comfortable. These are the exact summer outfits we wore on our 4-day Charleston trip, including dresses perfect for sightseeing, brunch, pool, and dinner.

Tanya Foster with luggage in front of 86 Cannon in Charleston

I love to wear a travel look that can take me straight from the plane to exploring the town. The bow detail muscle top (size S) and cuffed jeans (fit TTS) was the perfect look. I love to wear a good walking shoe like these Gazelle Adidas (sized down a size ) not only because they are cute but also to save room in my suitcase. For a weekend trip like this one, I used this carry-on suitcase and this puffer tote bag. I like how the tote bag is big enough to fit other bags, like this basket bag.

Tanya Foster wearing Six Fifty dress on the porch on 86 Cannon in Charleston

Charleston calls for easy, lightweight dresses. This maxi shirtdress (size S) was perfect for walking and exploring the city. I love the navy, but it also comes in red and white. Since the air conditioning can cause indoors to get chilly, I draped this sweater (size S) over my shoulders for a chic look. Also comes in several colors.

Tanya Foster's assistant wearing Social Threads shirtdress on the Rainbow Row in Charleston

This striped shirtdress (size S) is another perfect piece for Charleston! Laura wore the green version on the trip and I wore the navy version. It is so versatile and can take you from brunch to exploring and even make for a cute look to snap a photo.

Tanya Foster's assistant wearing Tuckernuck dress on the porch on 86 Cannon in Charleston

Another easy and versatile dress is this eyelet royal shirt dress (size S). You can easily dress it up or down depending on the occasion. It is also a great sleeve length if you want some extra coverage.

Tanya Foster and assistant's sandals in Charleston 86 Cannon

You need a good sandal for dressier occasions! I loved these ruffle raffia slide sandals. It's a chic and elevated sandal that's perfect for a lunch or dinner on the town. I like the flat sandals but there is a heeled version too.

Tanya Foster wearing Cartolina dress on the Rainbow Row in Charleston

Tanya Foster wearing Cartolina dress on a bike in front of 86 Cannon in Charleston

This eyelet mini dress (size S) was perfect for brunch and strolling. The fabric is lightweight and breathable, plus the style is so flattering. It's the perfect dress for pictures since it matches everything in Charleston!

Tanya Foster wearing Hunza G swimsuit in the pool on 86 Cannon in Charleston

You definitely need to pack a swimsuit when traveling to Charleston. Whether you're headed to the beach or relaxing poolside, this Hunza G one piece is a favorite. It comes in a bunch of colors. This swimwear brand is always one size fits all and it truly does.

Tanya Foster wearing Allison New York dress on the porch on 86 Cannon in Charleston

Tanya Foster and assistant wearing Social Threads and Allison New York dresses on the porch on 86 Cannon in Charleston

These dresses were the perfect elevated styles for dinner. I am wearing this embroidered dress (size S). It is so gorgeous and perfect for summertime. Laura is wearing this striped strapless dress (size S). It is a high quality dress, but under $100.

There you have it! The perfect packing list for a weekend in Charleston. Which looks are your favorite? Also, there are only two weeks left of the NSale, so don't sleep on it!

Do you ever wonder which self tanner products really work? Or how to get that sun kissed glow without laying out in the sun? Same here! I’m always on the hunt for the perfect bronzed look—without the UV rays. I’ve tested dozens of options and rounded up the best self tanners for 2025 that are streak-free, natural-looking, and perfect for any occasion. From buildable drops to express mousses, there’s something here for everyone. Let’s dive in!

For those of you who have not been with me for 10+ years that I've had this blog, you might want to read this blog post about my skin cancer scare. It is still the blog post that resonates the most with my readers and the one that people actually stop me to discuss. Many of you told me your own personal journey about going to the dermatologist and taking care of your own spots that you discovered after you read my blog post. I'm grateful that this little space on the web was helpful in some small way!

Just know when you see any type of beach, pool, or swimsuit shot of me, I have slathered on sunscreen and its typically 50 SPF strength. Gone are my high school days of baking my skin with baby oil and a reflective blanket. After all, that's what caused all of my skin damage to begin with. Now, I use sunless tanners, sprays and lotions to get that glow! I go to Sugared + Bronzed for my spray tans. I love the fact that I can schedule them online and they have numerous locations. And yes, I spray tan naked because I don't want tan lines.

Now let's talk best self tanners that really work. I'm giving you our favorites, which all come in different forms and for different skin tones...

1. Isle of Paradise Self-Tanning Drops – best natural glow

These self-tanning drops are still a top pick in 2025, and for good reason. These vegan, color-correcting drops blend with your moisturizer for a custom tan that develops naturally over time. Choose from light, medium, or dark based on your skin tone, and simply add a few drops to your favorite lotion. No mess, no strong scent, and no orange finish—just glowing skin. Perfect for face and body! These drops are a game-changer for people who want full control over their tan. Whether you're building it slowly over a few days or applying it more heavily for faster results, they work beautifully. Plus, they won't stain sheets or clothing. And yes, they’re clean, cruelty-free, and totally customizable.

2. Bondi Sands Technocolor 1-Hour Express Mousse – best for color matching

One of the most innovative tanners to launch recently, the Technocolor line uses undertone-specific technology to help you find your perfect match. Whether you’re cool, warm, or neutral-toned, there’s a formula for you. Plus, it develops in just one hour—ideal for last-minute plans or travel prep. Bondi Sands is known for its deep, rich results and streak-free formulas. This mousse includes a color guide so you can see where you've applied it, making it perfect even for beginners. And despite being an express tanner, the results last just as long as traditional options.

3. Coco & Eve Sunny Honey Bali Bronzing Foam best long-lasting tan

This cult-favorite Honey Bali Bronzing Foam formula is still going strong in 2025. It smells like vacation (think tropical mango and guava), applies smoothly with a color guide, and develops into a rich, golden tan that lasts up to 10 days. It's packed with antioxidants and amino acids to keep skin hydrated and smooth. Users rave about the non-sticky feel and the streak-free finish. Plus, it’s 100% vegan and toxin-free. If you want something that smells good, feels good, and looks great then Coco & Eve Bronzing Foam is a must.

4. b.tan Tanned AF Mousse - best for deep, dark tans

If you’re not messing around and want that rich, bronze look fast then this tanning mousse is for you. It develops in 1–4 hours depending on how deep you want the tan, and it’s a fave for vacations or photo shoots. It also scores points for being vegan, cruelty-free, and free of parabens. Plus, the bold branding and easy application make it a standout. It has a guide color so you can see exactly where you're applying it, which is a lifesaver for avoiding streaks.

5. Tan Luxe The Body Illuminating Self-Tan Drops - best luxury option

These luxury tanning drops are still a winner for 2025. They offer buildable coverage and a glow that develops over a few hours. They also offer tanning drops specifically for the face. Bonus: They contain skin-firming ingredients and antioxidants for added skincare perks. What sets these apart is the inclusion of raspberry seed oil, vitamin E, and aloe vera. It's skincare meets self-tanner, and that combo is everything right now. A little goes a long way, so even though it’s a splurge, it lasts.

6. Luxe Unfiltered No.32 Hydrating Self-Tanning Cream best clean formula

Created by influencer Sivan Ayla, this Hydrating Self-Tanning Cream is a clean, non-toxic formula is fragrance-free and delivers a super subtle, gradual glow. It’s perfect for anyone with sensitive skin or those wanting a minimalist, natural-looking tan. It feels like a high-end body cream and leaves skin looking dewy and even. Because it builds slowly, it's also great for maintaining a tan after a spray tan or vacation. Plus, the chic packaging looks gorgeous on any vanity.

7. Beauty Pie Awesome Bronze Self-Tanning Drops – best membership-based deal

For Beauty Pie members, these bronze self-tanning drops are an incredible luxe-for-less option. These drops give a healthy, believable glow and are packed with vitamin E and hyaluronic acid for extra hydration. Like other drop-style formulas, you simply mix with your daily lotion to customize your tan. The skincare ingredients set it apart, and it develops beautifully over a few hours. A great budget-friendly option for luxe results.

8. Charlotte Tilbury Supermodel Body Shimmer - for a radiant, highlighted glow

If you’re not quite ready to commit to a self-tanner or want an instant glow without the wait time, the Charlotte Tilbury Supermodel Body shimmer is a game changer. It’s not a self-tanner, but rather a skin highlighter and body shimmer that gives you that red carpet-worthy radiance right away. Think of it as a subtle body contour product—it reflects light and makes your skin look more toned, smooth, and elongated. I like to apply it down the center of my arms and legs to catch the light just right. It’s hydrating, blends easily, and gives your skin that dewy, sun-kissed finish without any mess or commitment. Perfect for events, travel, or when you just need a little something extra!

Self Tanning Tips

Getting the best results from your self tanner isn’t just about the product—it’s about the prep and the process. Here are my tried-and-true tips:

Exfoliate & shave the day before. This removes dead skin cells and gives you a smooth base.

Moisturize dry areas. Think: hands, feet, elbows, and knees. These areas can grab color and turn patchy if not hydrated.

Use a tanning mitt. It helps blend and keeps your hands from turning orange!

Apply in sections. Start from your feet and work upward. This prevents creases from bending over.

Avoid water, sweat, and tight clothing. Let your tan fully develop before rinsing or working out.

Moisturize daily after tanning. This helps prolong your glow and keeps your skin hydrated.

To correct mistakes: Use a self-tan eraser like Isle of Paradise's or gently exfoliate with a washcloth and lemon juice.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does self tanner last? Most self tanners last between 5–7 days, but products like Coco & Eve or b.tan can last up to 10 days with proper care.

Can I use self tanner on my face? Yes, but make sure it’s formulated for facial use. Tanning drops like Isle of Paradise or Tan Luxe are great because they blend with your skincare.

What’s the best self tanner for beginners? St. Tropez and Bondi Sands both have color guides that make application foolproof. Gradual tanners like Jergen's or Luxe Unfiltered are also easy to use.

Will self tanner make me orange? Not if you use the right tone for your skin. Products that offer undertone-specific formulas (like Bondi Sands Technocolor) are especially good at avoiding that orange cast.

How can I remove self tanner if I mess up? Use a tan eraser or exfoliate in the shower with a mitt and body scrub. Baby oil or lemon juice can also help lift excess color.

Whether you're a beginner or a bronzing pro, these self tanners will help you achieve a flawless summer glow without the sun damage. The beauty of 2025’s self-tanning products is how far they’ve come in terms of ingredients, scent, and customization. There really is something for everyone!

all white outfits for summer

Fourth of July weekend starts tomorrow! What do you have planned for the holiday weekend? Some of you may already be enjoying your vacation, so today let's relax and talk summer fashion. More specifically, let's look at my favorite stylish all white outfits for summer. I love to wear all white ensembles during the summer. It screams sophistication and chic! Not to mention that wearing a monochromatic look is always easy on the eye. Click on the image above or read through for my favorite white pieces this summer. I've also included 5 of my favorite 4th of July activities as well as some 4th of July SALE alerts. Don't forget that the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and Amazon Prime Days start next week. I will be covering the sales to make your shopping easier, so stay tuned for those blog posts.

____

All White Outfits

One of the easiest all white outfits is a dress. I love this sleeveless cotton poplin dress. It is a classic piece and so similar to the Ralph Lauren sleeveless cotton shirtdress but for under $100.  Another white dress I'm loving is this denim white dress. It's so cute and versatile. Click to see the full blog post to shop more white dress options below for any occasion at all price points.

You can't get through summer without a pair of white pants and a pair of white shorts. They go with everything! For a chic monochromatic look, pair them with a classic white blouse with a twist like this white button down blouse. I also love this linen embroidered tank and this long sleeve embroidered blouse for summertime. They're so feminine and pretty!

If you're hitting the pool, then you may want to stay cooler by wearing an all white look. Start with this white one-piece swimsuit. It's chic and so flattering. It's just like a Hunza G swimsuit but at a lower price point. Next, add a gorgeous white cover-up. I am loving this seashell eyelet cover-up shirt and shorts set. It's so pretty and give you more coverage when needed.

Next let's talk white shoes and accessories. Some of you know that I am not a huge fan of white shoes, but I do love a chic white sandal like these white strappy sandals. These Gucci slide sandals are another super cute white sandal that's perfect for summer and even poolside. As far as handbags go, I love this white crossbody bag and this white crochet tote for all the summer vibes. Now my favorite white jewelry are pearls of course. These pearl cluster earrings will give you a classic, sophisticated look. Just add white sunglasses and white nail polish to complete your summer look.

Top 5 Fourth of July Activities

1. Host a Backyard BBQ with All the Red, White & Blue Decor
There’s just something about a good old-fashioned backyard BBQ that screams Fourth of July. Pull out your gingham tablecloths, patriotic plates, and string lights for an easy and festive setup. I love using cute serving trays and themed napkins to pull everything together. Bonus points for a signature cocktail—anything with berries or bubbles will do!

2. Watch Fireworks from the Best Spot in Town
I don’t know about you, but I feel like it's not 4th of July without a good fireworks show. Find out where the big display is happening near you and make a night of it. Pete always hosts a fun Kaboomtown gathering at his airplane hangar at Addison Airport on July 3. It's such an amazing fireworks show and really kicks off the 4th of July!

3. Dress the Part
You know I can’t resist a themed outfit! Think breezy dresses, cute sets, or a classic all white outfit—add a red lip or statement earrings to bring in the patriotic flair. I always try to pick pieces that are stylish and comfortable, especially when it’s hot out. I’ve linked my holiday favorites HERE.

4. Head to the Lake or Pool
If you’re in Texas, you already know it’s going to be hot. Escape the heat with a day on the water. Whether it’s boating on the lake, lounging by the pool, or just dipping your feet in, it’s the perfect way to cool down and enjoy the holiday. Check out some Texas roadtrip ideas for a last minute holiday weekend vacay.

5. Make a Patriotic Dessert
One of my go-to 4th of July treats is a no-bake berry trifle or flag-inspired fruit platter. Super simple and crowd-pleasing. It’s an easy way to bring something festive to the party without spending hours in the kitchen.

Wherever you are and however you celebrate, I hope your holiday is full of fun. Happy 4th of July, friends! We'll see you back here on Monday. Enjoy the holiday weekend!

Today let's look at my June LTK Round-Up! These are an assortment of summer styles for all different occasions. Note that this is only a portion of what actually goes into my LTK shop. Be sure and follow me on LTK so that you can see my day to day looks and collages before they sell out! It is easiest to download the app to your phone, but it also works for desktop. Once on my page, you will see a 'Collections' near the top of my shop. Click on 'Fashion Edits' (seventh from the right) and you will see all of my collages in one place.

Above I am wearing this yellow linen midi dress (size S). It looks just like the Staud dress, but for under $100. It styled perfectly with this turquoise pendant necklace. I wore it to the recent Colleen Rothschild event to launch her new Renew & Replenish Shampoo & Conditioner. The scent is so fresh and it really makes your hair feel healthier. I recommend trying it! You can use code TANYA20 for 20% off non-bundled items.

Tanya Foster wearing Staud Cherry Wells dress

Tanya Foster wearing Staud Cherry Wells dress

Summer is officially in full swing, which means lightweight, breathable, and beautiful dresses are at the top of my wardrobe rotation. When the Texas heat kicks in, I want to feel cool and confident without sacrificing style. If you're like me and love classic pieces with a polished twist, you're going to love these three dresses I’m sharing today.

All three are midi to maxi length, incredibly flattering, and perfect for everything from casual coffee runs to summer soirées. These dresses are great investment pieces that make getting dressed effortless and stylish. Let’s take a look at each one and how to style it this season.

1. The Eyelet-Trimmed Belted Midi Dress – Everyday Effortless

Tanya Foster wearing Cartolina isadora midi dress

Tanya Foster wearing Cartolina isadora midi dress

Tanya Foster wearing Cartolina isadora midi dress

Tanya Foster wearing Cartolina isadora midi dress

Y’all know I love a piece that does all the work for me, and the Isadora Midi Dress is exactly that. This dress strikes the perfect balance between structure and softness, making it ideal for summer days when you want to feel polished but relaxed.

It features a fitted cotton jersey bodice that’s soft and stretchy, paired with a crisp poplin A-line skirt that moves beautifully thanks to its faux wrap design. The textural contrast between the bodice and skirt gives it a refined, layered feel and the little details are what make it shine. Think subtle needlepoint embroidery and delicate eyelet trims that add just the right touch of timeless femininity.

I wore it with my favorite brown Hermes Oran sandals and a DRIP coffee in hand—because that’s how every great summer outfit starts, right? Whether you’re headed to brunch, a baby shower, or just want to elevate your weekday style, this dress is a go-to.

Style Tips:

Why I Love It: It’s flattering, feminine, and has that effortless “put together” vibe without trying too hard. Plus it has pockets. Enough said!

_____

2. The Green & White Striped Maxi Dress – Bold and Sophisticated

Tanya Foster wearing Tuckernuck striped maxi dress

Tanya Foster wearing Tuckernuck striped maxi dress

Tanya Foster wearing Tuckernuck striped maxi dress

This dress is a showstopper! The bold green and white chevron stripes immediately caught my eye. It’s such a statement while still being easy to wear. The square neckline and wide straps give it structure, and the full skirt makes it feel elevated and graceful. I felt instantly put together the moment I slipped it on.

This one is ideal for dinner al fresco, a summer wedding, or even a night at the theater. I styled it with simple nude heels and minimal jewelry to let the stripes do the talking.I took it on this trip with me and it was perfect for dinner.

Style Tips:

  • Pull your hair back into a sleek ponytail or bun for a polished look.

  • Pair with neutral or gold accessories to balance the bold pattern.

  • A cardigan or white blazer would be perfect if you need an extra layer.

Why I Love It: It makes a statement without being over-the-top. You can throw it on and instantly feel like the best-dressed guest at any event.

_____

3. The Classic Red Midi Dress – Chic & Timeless

Tanya Foster wearing Staud Cherry Wells dress

Red is always a good idea, and this dress proves why. It’s the perfect shade of rich, bold red—not too bright, not too dark—and the midi length and structured bodice give it a timeless silhouette. It feels so feminine and strong at the same time.

I wore this one with nude heeled sandals and layered gold jewelry to keep the look classic. This would be a perfect dress for a date night, summer concert, or any event where you want to stand out (in the best way). You could also pair it with a raffia clutch and gold sandals for a resort-ready look. I wore it on my recent Silversea cruise to Europe and it was perfect for both dinner and a wine tasting excursion.

Style Tips:

Why I Love It: It’s timeless, flattering, and makes me feel confident every time I wear it. I'm wearing size 4 and it fits TTS.

_____

Why Midi & Maxi Dresses Are Summer Staples

There’s something about a midi or maxi dress that feels instantly elegant—without any fuss. Whether you’re 25 or 65, these lengths are universally flattering and versatile. They keep you cool while offering a bit more coverage, and they transition effortlessly from day to night. I always recommend having at least 2–3 midi or maxi dresses in your summer wardrobe that you can rotate through. Look for:

  • Lightweight fabrics like cotton poplin or linen blends

  • Defined waistlines to flatter your shape

  • Unique details like eyelet trim, bold prints, or rich colors

If you’re traveling this summer, these dresses also pack beautifully and don’t require much styling to look put together.

How to Accessorize Midi & Maxi Dresses

Styling these dresses is simple—and that’s what makes them such a staple. A few of my go-to accessories this season include:

You can mix and match these pieces across all three looks, which makes dressing a breeze.

At this stage in life, I’m all about investing in pieces that make getting dressed effortless and joyful! Each of these dresses brings a different energy: one is refined and relaxed, another bold and elegant, and the last timeless and striking. Whether you're running errands, enjoying a night out, or attending a summer wedding, these dresses will help you look and feel your best.

Thanks for stopping by the blog today! I’d love to hear which dress is your favorite. Let me know in the comments. And as always, everything is linked below to shop. Make it a great day!

Phosis social media picture

Tanya Foster with Phosis products

You know I’m always testing out the latest and greatest in beauty, and when I find something that truly works, I can’t wait to share it with you. Today’s post is all about a new skincare line that’s quickly become a favorite in my daily routine: Phosis Skincare. Plus, my followers get an exclusive discount now through July 31 -  code TANYA15 for 15% off your order at Phosis.com!

Phosis is a clean, science-led brand that believes in restoring skin’s natural glow with simplified, powerful routines—and they’ve absolutely nailed it. I’ve been using their Luminous Ultrafine Revitalizing Face Oil and Calm Deep Hydration Restorative Cream, and let me tell you—these products are next-level. Let’s dive into what makes Phosis so special, and why these two products deserve a front-row spot on your vanity. Founder Susan Campbell created Phosis to redefine beauty and self-care for women at the perimenopausal age and beyond.

What Is Phosis Skincare?

Phosis is all about skin that feels balanced, strong, and radiant. Their line is small—but mighty—and centers around deeply nourishing formulas that support your skin’s barrier, improve hydration, and restore that healthy glow. They use clean, cruelty-free, vegan ingredients. No synthetic fragrances, parabens, sulfates, or harsh chemicals. Their approach blends botanical ingredients with dermatologist-recommended actives, so you get the best of both worlds: gentle and effective. And did I mention? They’ve already made waves in the beauty world with awards such as Oprah Daily’s Menopause O-ward 2025 – Best Restorative Cream.

Spotlight: Luminous Ultrafine Revitalizing Face Oil

Phosis oil

Phosis Luminous Ultrafine Face oil

Let’s start with the one that completely wowed me: the Luminous Ultrafine Revitalizing Face Oil. If your skin ever feels dull, dehydrated, or tired, this is the boost you’ve been waiting for. I use it both morning and night, and it gives me that natural, dewy glow without feeling oily or sticky.

What Makes It Special:

  • Feather-light texture: It melts into the skin almost instantly—no heavy finish, no residue.

  • Key ingredients: Meadowfoam Seed oil, Sea Buckthorn Oil, Prickly Pear Seed Oil and Pomegranate Seed Oil.

  • Effective emollient to protect skin and locks in moisture. Fragrance- free too!

  • Glowing results: Skin feels soft, smooth, and luminous—immediately and over time. 80% in clinical trial reported improvement to skin barrier

For those experiencing hormonal skin changes (hello, perimenopause and menopause!), this oil is a dream. It helps calm inflammation, rehydrate dry areas, and restore that elasticity and bounce.

Tanya's Tip: I warm a couple drops in my hands and press it into clean skin—no rubbing! Then I tap a little extra on top of my cheekbones for a natural glow. It's also great on your cuticles and dry hands. You can even smooth it through your dry hair.

Calm Deep Hydration Restorative Cream: Skin Comfort in a Jar

Phosis calm deep restorative cream

Applying Phosis cream

Next up is the Calm Deep Hydration Restorative Cream, and y’all—this is the ultimate comfort cream. Whether your skin is feeling dry, tight, sensitive, or just off balance, this moisturizer brings instant relief and long-lasting hydration. It has quickly become a staple in my routine both morning and night. It layers beautifully under SPF and makeup during the day and feels luxuriously soothing at night. One jar truly does it all.

Why I Love It:

  • Hydration that lasts: Pulls in moisture and locks it in for a plump, bouncy feel. 78% saw an increase in firmness after 4 weeks in the clinical trial.

  • Skin-soothing formula: this cream calms redness and irritation without any heaviness. Key ingredients: Red Algae Extract, Lupine Protein, Meadowfoam Seed Oil and Ruttnera Lamellosa Oil.

  • Barrier support: Helps strengthen your skin’s natural defenses—so important if your skin is affected by hormone shifts, stress, or seasonal changes.

  • Versatile use: Works beautifully in both AM and PM routines, whether you’re layering under sunscreen or sealing in your evening serums.

And the accolades? Well-deserved. The Calm Deep Hydration Restorative Cream won Oprah Daily’s Menopause O-ward in 2025, which highlights the very best products for hormone-affected skin. That speaks volumes about how effective and thoughtfully formulated it really is.

Tanya Tip: Use it both morning and night for a double-dose of calm, cushiony hydration. It’s especially soothing if you’ve had too much sun, overdone exfoliation, or just need a skin reset. Rub it into your dry hands too.

How I Use Phosis in My Skincare Routine

Tanya Foster using Phosis products

Phosis fits so seamlessly into my skincare routine, and I think you’ll love how easy it is to incorporate. Here’s what my daily flow looks like:

Morning:

  1. Gentle cleanser

  2. Vitamin C serum

  3. Phosis Luminous Ultrafine Face Oil

  4. Lightweight moisturizer (optional)

  5. Sunscreen (non-negotiable!)

  6. Makeup

Evening:

  1. Cleanse + remove makeup

  2. Retinol serum or treatment (2–3 nights per week)

  3. Phosis Luminous Ultrafine Face Oil

  4. Phosis Calm Deep Hydration Cream

It’s such a simple ritual—but the results feel like you’ve had a facial.

Great for Hormonal Skin & Beyond

One thing I especially love about Phosis is how supportive it is for skin experiencing hormonal changes. If you're noticing more dryness, dullness, or sensitivity as you enter perimenopause or menopause, these products really help bring balance back.

The Luminous Oil restores glow, the Calm Cream deeply nourishes and protects, and together they help keep your skin feeling like your skin—just more hydrated, stronger, and healthier.

The Clean Beauty Details

Both products are:
Vegan
Cruelty-free
Fragrance-free
Made without parabens, silicones, or sulfates
Dermatologist-tested

Their formulas are designed to be gentle, even for those with sensitive skin. So if you’ve had trouble finding products that hydrate without irritation—Phosis is absolutely worth trying.

Final Thoughts

Phosis has truly earned a place on my top shelf. The Luminous Ultrafine Revitalizing Face Oil and Calm Deep Hydration Restorative Cream deliver results you can feel and see. If your skin has been feeling dry, dull, or just a little out of sync lately, these products are the reset button you didn’t know you needed. And with their award-winning formulas, skin-loving ingredients, and gorgeous textures, they make skincare feel luxurious again.

Don’t forget—you can use code TANYA15 for 15% off at Phosis.com! Hurry, the exclusive discount code expires July 31. Let me know if you give them a try. I love hearing what works for you!
