Alexandra Thornton is no stranger to hard work. In addition to a demanding academic schedule, she can be found every day after school at CrossFit Big D training for several hours in either Olympic lifting or CrossFit. She has had the same coach, Robert Sirkis, since her early days at University Park Elementary School.  Together, they have constructed and deconstructed her lifting technique to keep pace with her growth spurts, all the while working on subtle nuances leading to big lifting gains.

Alexandra was able to demonstrate what she has been perfecting at the American Open Weightlifting Finals in Anaheim, California on Saturday, December 9, 2017.
Alexandra smoothly snatched 80kg, hitting a number that she has been eyeing for several years. She followed that snatch with a personal best clean and jerk of 100kg, another number that had eluded her for the past several competitions. This resulted in a new personal record in her total of 180kg.  In accomplishing this, she went six for six. This means that out of six lifting attempts, all six were technically good lifts, as assessed by three separate technical judges.

Not content with this performance, she is back at the gym, working on yet her next set of goals. Stay tuned!
