Kitchen Design Concepts recently completed a beautiful transformation to a historic Lakewood home. This project began with a vision to breathe new life into the space, turning a poorly executed addition into a beautiful primary suite that stays true to the original home.

The original addition had a small closet and bathroom, an oddly shaped ceiling, and lacked cohesion with the rest of the home. Kitchen Design Concepts worked closely with the client to reimagine the space, relocating the closet door and converting it to a pocket door, incorporating unique storage solutions in the bathroom to maximize the small space, reframing the ceiling with wood beams to complement those in the kitchen, and replacing the carpet in the primary bedroom with hardwood flooring to create a cohesive look with the rest of the home.

Before the client even approached KDC with this project, she had already chosen a wallpaper she loved. However, when it came time to order the wallpaper, it was out of stock and would not be available for several months. After several samples were ordered from different wallpaper suppliers, the client landed on a company called Rebel Walls.

The wallpaper that the client selected was a mural that was initially designed for installation in spaces with 10-foot ceilings. After sharing the dimensions of the room with the company, they scaled down the mural and ensured the artwork would fit in the small space without losing its impact.

Carbon Companies, a Dallas-based privately owned real estate firm, announces the groundbreaking of the final two phases of The Links on PGA Parkway, a luxury multifamily development in the heart of Frisco’s Urban Village. The groundbreaking follows the closing of an approximate $125 million loan on April 22, arranged by the Carbon Companies team to finance the remaining phases of the 38-acre development.

A ceremonial groundbreaking event was held on Wednesday, May 28, to commemorate the occasion, and attended by project partners, city officials, and community stakeholders.

Located at 15950 Paramount Way, off of PGA Pkwy and the Dallas North Tollway, The Links on PGA Parkway will deliver an additional 620 podium-style luxury units, 815 underground parking spaces, and state-of-the-art wellness facilities and resort-inspired amenities, contributing to the full build-out of 1,310 total residential units.

The first two phases of the community, which opened in December 2021 and October 2023, introduced 690 apartments, two resort-style pools, two clubhouses, fitness center, a grab-and-go market, golf simulator, complimentary yoga and golf lessons from local professionals, and a two-acre city park.

Gospel Lighthouse Church - Dream Center Dallas

Merriman Anderson Architects (MAA) is pleased to announce the completion of the Historic Gospel Lighthouse Church renovation for the nonprofit organization, Dream Center Dallas. Dream Center Dallas provides resources and services in the areas of education, homelessness, hunger, poverty, addiction, abuse, and human trafficking within Dallas. Built in 1948, the Historic Gospel Lighthouse Church was originally constructed to serve a congregation of about 250 members.

MAA was engaged to provide architectural and interior design services and to lead the historic renovation process to preserve the building’s most iconic features. In accordance with The Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties, the project included restoring the church’s original façade and prominent roof beacon. Key spaces and features such as the sanctuary, entrance vestibule, lighting, seating, and prayer rooms were also restored to honor the building’s original design and historic significance.

Functional upgrades, including classrooms, offices, and meeting areas, were designed to meet ADA standards, with the addition of a new elevator to improve accessibility. As a State of Texas Historic Tax Credit project, MAA worked closely with the Texas Historical Commission to ensure all standards for historic preservation were met.

The restored building marks the first of two historic structures being transformed to support Dream Center Dallas’ ministry and outreach operations.

"The design of the Historic Gospel Lighthouse Church honors the rich legacy of this beloved local landmark," says Milton Anderson, President of MAA. "Our team is grateful to be part of a project that holds deep meaning for the community and aligns with Dream Center Dallas’ mission to share generosity and unconditional love with all."

May is National Foster Care Month, a national initiative led by the Children’s Bureau to raise awareness about foster care and recognize the dedication of families, foster parents, child welfare professionals, mentors, and policymakers who help youth find permanent, loving homes.

In the Metroplex East region of North Texas (a nine-county area including Dallas, Collin, Ellis, Fannin, Grayson, Hunt, Kaufman, Navarro and Rockwall counties), EMPOWER - a child welfare collaborative focused on meeting the unique needs of Texas children and families - launched a campaign to highlight the urgent need for foster parents and the life-changing impact they have on children.

The campaign, Empower Dreams, Foster Futures, is a user-friendly, intuitive platform that helps navigate the process of becoming a foster parent with ease and precision. It also connects those interested to personalized resources and agencies that best support their unique needs.

All children deserve a safe and loving place to call home, and sometimes they need a place to land for a short time. Foster parents can provide that and advocate for and with biological families.

Two generations received recognition at Bachman Lake Together’s annual Community Action Network (CAN) graduation ceremony, which celebrated the achievements of parent leaders and preschool graduates in Dallas’ Bachman Lake neighborhood.

Nineteen Bachman Lake-area parents completed the nine-month CAN program, which empowers parents by helping them build leadership skills, learn to advocate for their children’s education and access resources that support family well-being. Seventeen additional parents were honored for completing advanced levels of the program, which provides mentorship, training in early learning advocacy and volunteer leadership roles.

The ceremony, held at the Bachman Recreation Center, marked the culmination of Bachman Lake Together’s CAN parent leadership program.

Our CAN graduates have stepped into their roles as advocates, leaders and champions for early learning—and their commitment inspires us all to create a supportive environment where our children can grow and thrive.”

During the ceremony, AnaLorena Carrasco, Executive Director of AVANCE North Texas, which is a longtime partner of Bachman Lake Together, shared how AVANCE’s partnership with Bachman Lake Together and its role in delivering high-quality early education supports families holistically – ensuring parents and children learn side by side.

Israel Rivera, Dallas ISD Parent Advocacy and Support Services Executive Director, delivered a keynote address, highlighting the importance of parent engagement in children's education. Graduate and past Bachman Lake Together board member Denisse Gutierrez her experiences as a parent in the program and her belief in the power of parents to lead change in Bachman Lake.

Bachman Lake Together extends heartfelt thanks to its partners, volunteers, and supporters for their continued dedication to empowering families. Children thrive when they have regular interactions with responsive, caring adults, yet neglect is the most reported form of child maltreatment that can have long-term effects on children’s health and development. Child abuse is an ugly reality of society, and awareness and prevention are crucial in making a difference and making the world a better place for children of all ages.

Child abuse is not limited to young children. Older children and adolescents can also experience abuse, whether it comes from their parents or within a romantic relationship. It also occurs across all socioeconomic levels, ethnic and culture lines and religion and education levels.

An important advocate for children in the Metroplex East region is Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). CASA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit social service agency focused on protecting children, restoring childhood and helping child victims of abuse and neglect achieve their full potential. CASA volunteers are voices for abused and neglected children in court and their ultimate goal is to help ensure that all of the children in protective care find safe, permanent homes where they can thrive.

To find local volunteer opportunities in Dallas, please visit https://www.dallascasa.org/about-dallas-casa/. For volunteer opportunities outside of Dallas, please visit https://texascasa.org/how-to-help/. To report suspected child abuse or neglect, please call 1-800-252-5400.
