HP vs. West Mesquite (Girls Varisty) Highland Park junior Haylee Anigian-Rios (10) plays defense.

The Highland Park girls varsity basketball team's season ended on Friday after losing 62-51 to West Mesquite in the UIL Regional Semifinals round of the playoffs at the Garland ISD Special Events Center.

The Lady Scots were unable to overcome a 22-5 scoring run by West Mesquite in the second quarter of the game, and making matters worse, Highland Park junior Kaitlyn Read got into foul trouble and sat out for a majority of the third quarter.

Scorers in the game for Highland Park include Libby Ethington with 15 points, Kaitlyn Read with 12 points, Sydney McDaniel with eight points, and Haylee Anigian-Rios and Alex Reynolds with three points each.

Despite the loss, the Lady Scots finished the season with a 25-8 overall record, going 10-4 in district games, and they made it four rounds into the playoffs.

The graduating seniors on the team are Libby Ethington, Amanda Goodwin, Sydney McDaniel, Savanna Taylor and Sarah Werner.
