Highland Park High School Football Coach Randy Allen had a kind word to share with Scots fans Monday after the team unfortunately fell to Denton Guyer in a heartbreaker Saturday afternoon.
The Scots, ending the season 13-2, were edged out by Guyer right at the end of the state semifinal, after HP had led the entire ball game. The Guyer Wildcats scored 22 points in the fourth quarter of the game at Allen Eagle Stadium, putting a stop to the Scots' quest for another state championship.
Maybe 2014 will be the big year for the Scots; in the meantime, check out this letter to Scots parents and community fans from Coach Allen:
Dear HPISD Community,
I want to thank the great Scot family for supporting the football team this past Saturday in the state semifinal game in Allen. The crowd was fantastic, and helped motivate and support our team. I couldn't be more proud of the Scots who played their hearts out, and of the Scots who stood cheering until the final whistle blew.
We had a resilient team this year that won 13 games in a row. Our only two losses came to teams who will be playing in the state championships this weekend.
One of the many reasons I love being a Scot is the sense of pride we share on Friday nights. It's not just about football, as so many student groups, parents, staff and community members come together to make each game special. I'd like to thank the cheerleaders, Scotsmen, Belles, band members, color guard, pipers and everyone who gave their time and dedication to performing during the season.
The tradition continues. Go Scots!
Sincerely,
Coach Randy Allen
