Angela Choquette, Maggie Kipp and Paige Slates were recognized for their hard work on the upcoming St. Valentine’s Day Luncheon and Style Show, benefiting the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society. Stanley Korshak owner Crawford Brock toasted the ladies and their whole committee for their commitment to the Society and the event. The Feb. 12 event is almost sold out at its new location, the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, and will celebrate Myrna and Bob Schlegel as this year’s Honorary Chairs. Co-chair Paige Slates said, “We are so excited about this year’s event to be held at the Myerson. The fashions from Monique lhuillier will light up the symphony stage as we raise money for the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society.” A few tickets are left and can be purchased by calling or emailing Michelle Northcutt at 972-996-5912 or michelle.northcutt@lls.org.

Arch H. McCulloch Intermediate School and Highland Park Middle School (MIS/HPMS) Family Consumer Science teacher Liza Leggett is heading up a food drive for the 10th year in a row. The drive, through Friday, Feb 15, benefits the North Texas Food Bank. Every dollar donated provides three meals to hungry North Texans, and 94 cents out of every dollar goes directly to hunger relief programs. In 2011, HPMS and MIS collected a total of 2,931 pounds of food and donated over $5,500. Liggett said, “It is important for me to give back to the community and to help students understand they can have an impact. I enjoy giving and volunteering and feel that everyone can do something no matter how small or insignificant they think their donation is. Even just one person’s donation of a few cans or a few dollars or their time can go far when we all put our efforts together.” For more information, please contact Liza Liggett at leggetl@hpisd.org

Campaign Chair Chris Crocker and his team have been smiling and dialing for the Park Cities YMCA’s (Y) “A Promise to Our Community” annual Partners Campaign. The six-week fundraiser, which runs through Feb. 22, hopes to raise $425,000. A donation to the Partners Campaign allows the Y to provide financial assistance to individuals and families for memberships and programs. The funds also subsidize program costs. Crocker said, “The Y is an essential part of this community, and I see the impact that it has in the lives of those in need in our own community.” To make a donation, you can mail or drop off a check at the Park Cities YMCA, or CLICK HERE. (Select “Park Cities” as the location to receive your online donation.)

The Armstrong Dad’s Club is looking forward to their first annual Father/Daughter Tea at the newly-remodeled Holiday Inn on North Central Expressway. The Feb. 17 event will delight any little girl’s heart with a choice of blueberry and raspberry scones, assorted sandwiches, roast beef, chicken salad and an assortment of hot and cold teas. The event will be hosted by Armstrong Dad’s Club President Chris Cason, Dad’s Club President-Elect Mario Santander and Principal Skip Moran. Cason said, “The response to our first Father/Daughter Tea has been exceptional. This gives dads and their daughters some one-on-one time and a chance for the girls to have some fun dressing up and playing games. It's also nice for the dads to have a special picture made of just the two of them at the party.”
