Happy Hollydays Bazaar More than 100 vendors join the Happy Hollydays Bazaar in its 36th year.

‘Tis the season to start holiday shopping! The chairs of the Hyer Preschool Association’s (HPA) 36th Annual Happy Hollydays Bazaar are hard at work, bringing together more than 100 vendors for this two day event. Held on the grounds of Hyer Elementary on November 7 and November 8, the Happy Hollydays Bazaar has everything from children's clothing, home goods and food products to jewelry and special services, making holiday shopping easier than ever.

“The Happy Hollydays Bazaar has become an honored holiday season tradition, and we’re thrilled to have more than 100 high quality vendors attending this year,” said Amanda Roeder, co-chair of the 2014 Bazaar. “Our Bazaar team has made this year’s event very shopper-friendly with online ticket sales, optional valet parking on Saturday starting at 10 a.m. and food trucks both days.”

In 1979, a group of HPA moms organized the first Happy Hollydays Bazaar in a member’s home, raising $1,000 to benefit Hyer. Pleased with their success, they planned a second Bazaar the following year. Most items sold were either made by Hyer moms or local merchants who donated a portion of their profits to the HPA. In 1981, organizers created a cookbook, which they sold for $5 per copy. The addition of the cookbook spurred them to raise nearly $10,000, and they knew they had created a successful fundraising event.  In 1982, the event grew and moved to the grounds of Hyer where it has been held each year since.

“This year, we have added a family-friendly kickoff party on Friday night,” said Karin Shoffner, 2014 Bazaar co-chair. “The fun starts at 5:00 p.m. with food trucks, a DJ and great activities for kids of all ages.”

Each year, the HPA makes a tax-free monetary donation that provides the financial support for programs and equipment that might not otherwise be possible. The 2013 Happy Hollydays Bazaar raised more than $122,000, helping to fund renovations to the Hyer gym, update classroom furniture and purchase technology used throughout the school.  In previous years, the Bazaar's proceeds have provided funds to benefit the students and faculty at Hyer, including the renovation of the art room, updating the picnic courtyard and establishing a Literacy Library.
