The University Park Fire Department was dispatched around 3:30 p.m. Monday to the 3700 block of Southwestern Avenue in University Park because a fire broke out in the backyard of a residence.

Steve Mace, the community information officer for University Park, said there were no injuries nor was there any damage done to the home from the fire.

The residence has a pool in its backyard, and the fire was sparked around the pool's equipment, Mace said. The blaze ignited portions of a fence and several cedar trees, and it scorched some patio furniture. Also, several power lines were downed during the incident. 

Oncor was called out to the scene to take care of the downed lines, but the home still had power after the situation was contained, Mace said. The fire department was able to get control of the situation before any further damage was caused.
