James Fraschilla, who is a 2011 Highland Park High School graduate and currently plays on the University of Oklahoma men's basketball team, was elected to be the vice president of the university's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

The goal of the committee, which is a student organization, is to represent athletes at the university in a way that "upholds the traditions of the University of Oklahoma, promotes leadership and communication, and enhances involvement in the campus community," according to a news release. Representatives from each varsity sport at the university are on the committee, and Fraschilla is one of two delegates from the men's basketball team.

"It's been an honor, as a freshman, to represent my team on the committee, and I'm excited to take on this leadership role next year," Fraschilla said.

Meeting regularly throughout the school year, the committee votes on NCAA and Big 12 legislation on behalf of the university's athletes, and it hosts on-campus events. Also, the committee sponsors the only peer-awarded, student-athlete honor called the Sooner Oath Award, which is given to one male and one female student-athlete for exemplifying leadership, sportsmanship, strong moral character and Sooner pride.

In addition to his new leadership position, Fraschilla was recognized on March 11 at the men's basketball banquet for receiving an Academic Excellence Award.

This past season, Fraschilla played in ten games for the Sooners, including matchups against the University of Kansas, University of Missouri and Oklahoma State University.
