Park Cities families who have old sports equipment just taking up space in their garages can put it to good use — by donating it to charity.

An annual collection drive for used sports equipment, which was started in 2007 by Highland Park High School students, is happening from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday at HPHS Highlander Stadium.

The donations will be given to youth sports programs affiliated with the Salvation Army, Little Heroes Baseball and the Bridge Lacrosse Association, according to the Replay Sports website, which is the name of the collection drive.

All types of sports equipment can be dropped off, including balls, helmets, gloves, bags, jerseys, shin guards and more.

A second collection drive will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on Aug. 25 at Highland Park Middle School.
