Highland Park High School's varsity boys basketball team will be without star guard David Matthew Allen in a playoff game against Carrollton Newman Smith today.

Allen, 18, was arrested by University Park police officers on Saturday night for allegedly driving while intoxicated after he reportedly crashed into another vehicle and then left the scene.

A witness, who saw Allen's 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe hit a stationary BMW in the 6300 block of Hillcrest Road, followed Allen as he drove away and notified the police, according to police reports. Allen was pulled over in the 3800 block of Greenbrier Drive, and the police detected alcohol on his breath and found the damage on his car.

Field sobriety and "Intoxilyzer" tests helped the officers determine that Allen was driving while intoxicated, according to the police reports.

Allen averaged 23 points and five rebounds per game for Highland Park's basketball team, but his arrest violated the school district's code of conduct, so he will not be able to play in tonight's game, according to reports.
