University Park Elementary’s third grade explorations class recently had the opportunity to learn more about the cardiovascular system by dissected a pig heart. Special guests Dr. Haojie Wang, Clinical and Nuclear Cardiologist, Echocardiography and Cardiovascular CT, along with his wife Ting, led Miss Kiser’s TAG class to make incisions that would open the heart to examine all four chambers. Students explored how oxygen poor blood flows from the body through the heart to the lungs. They followed the pathway from the lungs to the other side of the heart that pumps oxygen rich blood to the whole body. Students were excited and ready to investigate every part of the heart to learn more about the cardiovascular system.
