One of the families involved in a defamation lawsuit over a Highland Park Middle School student's novel has reached a settlement with the author's family, according to court documents. The amount of the settlement has not been disclosed.

The novel, which is titled Nobody's Perfect, was written by an eighth grader at HPMS and depicts underage students doing illegal activities and mentions about 30 of the author’s classmates by their actual names.

The family who agreed to the settlement filed a lawsuit in January against the family of the eighth grader who wrote the novel, joining another family who filed a lawsuit in September of last year over the book because their daughter was allegedly depicted in the story in sexual, violent and illegal situations.

The original lawsuit has not been settled and is scheduled to go to a jury trial on Oct. 30.

The 362-page novel was published and sold by the student on the website LuLu.com but has since been removed.
