The University Park City Council approved amendments to the city's parking district and master fee schedule at its regular meeting on Tuesday afternoon at University Park City Hall.

The City Council added the north side of the 3600 block of McFarlin Boulevard to the Residential Parking District because residents at seven of the twelve homes on that portion of the block expressed in a petition that they wanted their stretch of the street to be included in the parking district.

In addition to the parking district amendment, the Council approved modifications to the city's master fee schedule, including "housekeeping changes" to make it consistent with the current city codes and increases to fees for things such as animal impoundment and swimming lessons.

"The fee schedule is a catalog of all the various fees and charges that the city levies on everything from swimming pool passes to building plan reviews," said Kent Austin, the city's director of finance.

Here are some of the modifications that were made to the Master Fee Schedule:

  • The amendment removed sections of the master fee schedule that allowed community-related groups to rent the City Hall's Council Chamber, Training Room and Conference Room.
  • The permit fee for getting automatic fire alarm and fire extinguishing systems installed was increased to a minimum of $50 in addition to the one-percent fee of the valuation of materials and labor that is involved.
  • University Park does not own or operate a vehicle impound lot anymore, so sections of the master fee schedule about that were removed.
  • Animal impoundment fees were increased from $30 a day to $50 a day for all impoundments, and the one-time processing fee per animal was increased from $15 to $25.
  • The rates for swimming pool parties were changed to $75 for one to 25 people, $100 for 25 to 50 people, and it is up to the pool manager's discretion on what to charge for groups over 50 people. Private preseason parties cost $800.
  • Private swimming lessons at the pool were increased from $100 to $135.
  • Anyone who removes or damages a tree in violation of the tree preservation ordinance will have to pay $500 for a tree six inches or more in diameter and $250 for a tree that less than six inches in diameter.
