Highland Park High School Girls Cross Country Coach Jerry Sutterfield was recognized earlier this month in Austin by the Texas Girls Coaches Association.

At the TGCA Honor Awards Luncheon on July 13, Sutterfield received a State Championship Coaches award in recognition of the HPHS girls team winning the 4A State Championship in Cross Country last December. Also, he was recognized as the 4A-5A Coach of the Year in Cross Country out of 251 cross country programs from around the state and for reaching the milestone of 1,000 points scored in cross country by a Texas high school team.

Sutterfield, who has coached at Highland Park for 26 years and has been Girls Cross Country Head Coach since 1995, has won seven state championships since taking over for former Coach Jim Mouser in 1995.
