Zoning Allows for Expansion of Alcuin Upper School, Campus Building Projects, and Renovations
Alcuin School, a leader in Montessori and International Baccalaureate® education, today announced that it received unanimous approval by the Dallas City Council for its zoning request.
The new zoning allows Alcuin to expand its Upper School to a maximum of 180 students, and build the Upper School on the existing Alcuin campus at 6144 Churchill Way in North Dallas. Alcuin also gained approval to renovate current buildings and playground areas.
“The changes mean that our physical plant will match our educational excellence,” said Walter Sorensen, Alcuin Head of School. “We also look forward to our continued support and engagement of the community, which is a mutually valued relationship that will benefit both the school and the neighborhood.”
Alcuin Board members, administration, staff and parent volunteers have devoted countless hours to this endeavor. This involved negotiations and compromises that earned support for Alcuin’s reallocation plans from the local neighbors and from the Dallas City Plan Commission.
Last month, the Plan Commission voted unanimously to pass Alcuin School’s rezoning request and recommended that it be passed by the Dallas City Council.
“It has taken us two years to gain the support of the neighbors and homeowner associations, and all our efforts were rewarded during the City Council meeting yesterday,” said Sorensen.
The passage of Alcuin’s request will continue to enhance the school’s growth. Plans are for Alcuin to add grades 10 through 12 in high school over the next few years. This follows the enrollment of Alcuin’s inaugural freshman class last fall. These students will graduate as the school’s first senior class in May 2018.
Although current total enrollment from toddler through 9th grade is approximately 500, the campus will remain at no more than 700 as part of the reallocation.
