HP vs. Wylie (Varsity) Highland Park's Sydney McDaniel guards a Wylie player.

The Lady Scots varsity basketball team was able to beat the Wylie Lady Pirates by a score of 46-40 in a hard fought District 10-4A matchup on Tuesday at Highland Park High School.

Kaitlyn Read played a dominating game and scored 22 points for the Lady Scots. She is currently ranked No. 17 for scoring in the area, averaging 15.7 points per game. Also, Read is ranked fourth in the area for assists, averaging 5.1 per game.

Other scorers on Highland Park's squad in the game include Libby Ethington with 8 points, Alex Reynolds and Courtney Klingaman with 6 points each and Sydney McDaniel with four points. McDaniel is ranked in the top twenty in the area for three-point shooting.

Also, Highland Park's varsity squad averages 56.3 points per game, which puts them in fourth place in the area for team offense.

Right now, Highland Park (18-7, 6-4) is in a three-way tie for third place in their district with McKinney and Wylie. Only the top four teams in the district will advance to the UIL State Championship playoffs, which means all four of the remaining district games this season are crucial for the Lady Scots.

The Lady Scots will be taking on Pearce in their next game at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the HPHS main gym.
