Game Highlight: Avondale Target Toss

While the action at Dragon Stadium is always exciting, this night will have even more high-octane fun. One lucky fan—pre-registered and selected from the crowd—will step onto the field during halftime for the Avondale Target Toss. The challenge? Toss a Nerf football through a specific target. The reward? A brand-new Mercedes-Benz GLA 250, courtesy of Mercedes-Benz of Grapevine, an Avondale dealership. (The consolation prize is great, too: A fabulous weekend spent in the Mercedes-Benz GLA!)

"Avondale Night is all about celebrating this incredible community and showing our continued support for Southlake Carroll ISD," said Zach Gilbert, general manager of Mercedes-Benz of Grapevine and Southlake resident. "We’re bringing excitement, energy, and a deep sense of appreciation for the students, families and fans who make this community so special. We are proud to support educational and athletic opportunities for students here.”

As part of the experience, Avondale will showcase four elite vehicles in Dragon Stadium—including two Porsche vehicles from Porsche Grapevine and two Mercedes-Benz models from Mercedes-Benz of Grapevine -- blending the thrill of automotive excitement with the fun of Friday night lights.

Dallas artist Stephen Selzler with Custom Bentley Mulliner Victoris Edition (Photo credit: Traci Schwomeyer)

This September, during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Avondale is pleased to offer a bespoke Mulliner-designed Bentley Bentayga vehicle named the Victoris Edition. This one-of-a-kind luxury SUV was created in collaboration with renowned Dallas artist Stephen Selzler, and proceeds from the vehicle will create change for three local non-profit organizations supporting those facing childhood cancer. This bespoke vehicle is available now at Bentley Dallas.

September marks Childhood Cancer Awareness Month—a time to highlight the harsh realities faced by children with cancer, stress the critical need for life-saving research, and unite in support to create meaningful change for young patients and their families.

Elevating Charitable Missions

Net proceeds from the sale of this exceptional Bentayga vehicle will raise vital funds for three North Texas charities, each making a significant impact in helping people overcome obstacles:

  • Children’s Health, which has been making life better for children in North Texas for more than 110 years as one of the nation’s premier pediatric care providers;
  • Children’s Cancer Fund, on a mission to find a cure for all childhood cancers and support families affected by cancer; and
  • The Child Study Center Cook Children’s, which provides children with complex developmental and behavioral disabilities the highest quality diagnosis, treatment and education to help them achieve their full potential.

Dedication in Design

Avondale called on internationally acclaimed artist Stephen Selzler to collaborate with Avondale and Bentley’s Mulliner division to create something truly unique for North Texas. A Dallas-based fine artist, Selzler has a focus on motoring culture, concourse events and motorsport. Known for his bold, expressive style, Selzler uses art as a means of storytelling.

Selzler’s design for the Bentayga reflects a powerful narrative of overcoming obstacles, with each detail of the vehicle serving as a tribute to those who have faced life’s toughest battles and emerged victorious. The artist’s intricate design touches every part of the vehicle—from the exterior to the interior—imbuing it with a message of hope, perseverance and strength.

The exterior features a unique, hand-painted design inspired by themes of renewal, featuring dynamic brushstrokes and vivid colors that symbolize the beauty found in resilience. Inside, the craftsmanship of the Bentley Bentayga is enhanced with Selzler’s bespoke artistic touches, including finely detailed embroidery, custom leather, and exclusive finishes from Mulliner that elevate the vehicle to an unprecedented level of elegance and artistry.

“Through this collaboration, we have created a moving tribute to the power of human resilience. The vehicle’s designs, from the bespoke paintwork to the interior details, are imbued with symbols of triumph and resilience, carefully curated to resonate with the stories of those overcoming life’s challenges. All of the design elements chosen are meant to reflect the spirit of victory and the courage of our community’s children that this project supports,” Selzler explained.

Bentley’s Mulliner division, known for its unparalleled craftsmanship and bespoke creations, has once again demonstrated its expertise in creating vehicles that transcend traditional luxury. These Bentley Bentayga vehicles are truly exceptional works of art, combining the iconic performance and refinement of Bentley with the profound message of hope and triumph.

“This partnership has led to the creation of an exceptional project that pushes the limits of automotive luxury, all while advocating for those overcoming life's greatest challenges. The outcome of this collaboration is the Victoris Edition, a blend of innovative design, expert craftsmanship, and compassionate philanthropy, designed to support organizations empowering children and their caregivers,” Hesham Elgaghil, president of Avondale, said. “We are proud to share Avondale’s commitment to community through this unique and moving collaboration.”

The 2025 Gala Leadership Team: Honorary Co-Chairs David and Natalie Taylor, Auction Chair Norma Jean Schaltenbrand, and Gala Co-Chairs Kristin and James Hallam

The 44th Annual Equest Blue Ribbon Gala was a night where cowboy boots and big-hearted bidding came together in a spirited celebration that still has Dallas buzzing. On April 25, Gilley’s Dallas was transformed into a shimmering celebration of all things Equest, thanks to the visionary leadership of Gala Chairs Kristin and James Hallam and Honorary Chairs The Sam and Helga Feldman Foundation and Natalie and David Taylor. The event drew a sold-out crowd of 570 and raised $700,000, the largest fundraising amount in Equest’s 44-year history.

From the first “yee haw” delivered by emcee Calvert Collins-Bratton, guests knew this was no ordinary gala. The program unfolded as a masterclass in inspiration, with each speaker reminding the room that every dollar raised would help Equest deliver hope and healing through its transformative equine-assisted programs.

Equest Founder Susan Schwartz presented the Founders Award to Carol Chamberlin, whose three decades of service as volunteer, donor, and barn manager have made her a legend in the Equest family. The Citation Award went to Donna and Tim Weber and their daughter Katherine, an Equest client, in recognition of their tireless volunteerism and generous philanthropy.

New CEO Eric Lindh took the stage to share Equest’s bold vision for the future, focusing on the number “22,” a call to action inspired by the 22 percent of Dallas County residents living with a disability, the 22 veterans lost to suicide daily in the U.S., and the 22 percent of Americans living with mental illness, while less than half of those receive treatment. His pledge to expand services to first responders struck a chord, as did the moving testimonials from Equest clients.

The silent and live auctions were runaway successes. Auction Chair Norma Jean Schaltenbrand urged the crowd to “Bid boldly. Bid big. Bid with heart,” and Dallas delivered. Auctioneer Louis Murad encouraged bidders to raise paddles effortlessly, starting from initial $10,000 bids onward. He energized the room with live auction packages featuring fabulous trips around the world, including destinations such as France, Antigua, Montana, and more. But the most memorable moment came when a guest insisted Louis auction off his own sparkling jacket. Ever the showman, he obliged, and the jacket fetched $2,000, a purchase by Tim Weber who clearly knows a statement piece when he sees one.

Of course, no gala would be complete without a little razzle-dazzle from event designer Steve Kemble, who outdid himself with a blue ombré color scheme, elegant white rose tablescapes, and a “disco saddle” centerpiece that had everyone talking. As the evening drew to a close, guests tried their luck at casino games and danced the night away to Jordan Kahn’s Manhattan Orchestra. The sensational fundraising evening proved once again that when Dallas comes together for Equest, it’s always a blue-ribbon affair.

Additional notable attendees included Amy Green, Chair of the Equest Board of Directors; Lili Kellogg, former CEO of Equest; and an ensemble of distinguished charity leaders including Nancy Greenbach, Sara and Robert Hallam, Lynn McBee, Tanya and Danny Rice, Therese Rourk, Kristy and Patrick Sands, Anne Seanor, and Donna Weitzman, among many others.

Special thanks go to the sponsors whose generosity made the night possible, including: Ben E. Keith Co., Benchmark Bank, Beasom Stable, Goldman Sachs Gives, Bank of Texas, Pender’s, Cavender’s Boot City, Kiewit, Steve Kemble Event Design, Hopkins, Etro, Dallas Capital Bank, Holland & Knight, Pave the Way Jewelry by Joan Hornig, Quest Events, Susan Friedman Public Relations, Spirit Tours, Modern Luxury Dallas, NexPoint, Marsh McLennan Agency, Lela Rose, My Sweet Charity, Brilliant Fulfillment, and Commerce Street Capital.
