TDC Academics Meeting

For the 2016 – 2017 school year

Our dancers juggle so much between dancing 15+ hours a week, school, homework, and other activities.  When do you have time to see your children or for your kids to be kids, without the added stress of maintaining grades and keeping track of assignments?

We have an alternative solution to your problems.  Our daytime academic program allows more time for your child to be at home, more time devoted to their training, and LESS stress for the whole family! Our students have increased their grades and have found a new love for learning.

We would love to give you more information about our program at a very special meeting.  Come prepared to get all the latest information on the program and the new features we are preparing for next year.  Even if you are unsure if this is right for your child, this meeting will bring true clarity to your decision.

Date: Thursday, February 4th, 2016

Time: 7:15 pm

Where: Studio A

Come with questions or just come to get informed!

“TDCA has changed our lives! Our daughter’s grades are higher than they have ever been, and our quality of life has increased significantly.  Our child is more rested, more prepared, and happier than any previous school year.  Under the direction of Destine´ Grobe, our child has learned improved study skills, test-taking abilities, and has learned to effectively manage her time while balancing a vigorous training schedule.  She has also been able to pursue roles in films, commercials, and music videos because of the flexibility the school provides.  We are supremely happy with TDCA!”

The Dallas Conservatory Wins Big at YAGP 2015
16 awards include the competition's top honors

Congratulations to the families, faculty and staff of The Dallas Conservatory on another "sweep" at the Youth America Grand Prix International Ballet Competition, Dallas Regionals 2015.   Of some 600 entries, 26 Conservatory students and their teachers, coaches, and choreographers were honored with 16 awards, more than any school of the 44 in attendance. Here's a quick listing!

Outstanding Teacher
Jacqueline Porter
TDC's Executive Artistic Director relocated to Dallas from New York City in 2008 where she had been a longtime professional dancer and actress. She founded and directs two joint performing arts schools of 700 children and adults, Park Cities Dance and The Dallas Conservatory (TDC). She is the primary teacher of all 26 TDC dancers who competed at YAGP this weekend, and was primary coach on 12 of TDC's 16 winning dances. This is her second time winning
this award, and to date has trained 15 winning YAGP soloists and 42 winning ensemble dancers in 5 years. Besides teaching and choreographing for our company dancers, Jacqueline teaches ballet to hundreds of students each year including Absolute Beginning Adults and Summer Intensives.
Outstanding Choreographer
Ausia Jones, 17

This honor is rarely given to students! Ausia choreographed 3 award-winning pieces on her fellow TDC students, and was the primary coach on each of the pieces. The award was shared with well-known professional choreographer Carlos Dos Santos Jr., who choreographed one of TDC's award-winning ensembles, "Siege". Imagine the honor for this 17 year old professional-to-be! As a dancer, she placed 1st in her contemporary solo in the highly competitive senior division. Ausia attends Booker T Washington HSPVA and is pictured with Eden Ryder, 12, who danced Ausia's choreography and won 2nd Place Contemporary in her Junior Division.

Youth Grand Prix
Rachel Rohrich, 13

This honor places Rachel as the only student in YAGP history to win top honors in 4 sequential years regionally.  She has been awarded the "Hope Award" twice, and won the Youth Grand Prix last year. Unbelievably she began her classical ballet training less than 5 years ago, when Jacqueline Porter noticed Rachel's flexibility in a jazz workshop. Rachel attends the Hockaday School and is pictured (R) in our school's signature publicity shot at the age of 10. Rachel was seen as the Sugar Plum Fairy in TDC's 2014 production of The Nutcracker at Dallas City Performance Hall. She is a scholarship winner to Pacific Northwest Ballet's Summer 2015 Intensive!

Kali Kleiman's adorable 20-second entry for World Ballet Day. Watch!

Hope Award
Kali Kleiman, 11

Kali's unusual dramatic flair, energy and technique shone through in her solos and ensemble work this weekend! Winner of 1st Place Contemporary at YAGP 2014, Kali's dramatic and daring contemporary solo this year, "I Never Saw Another Butterfly", was based on the experiences of her ancestors under Hitler's rule. Kali follows a full TDC schedule of classical ballet and pointe, jazz, contemporary, theater dance, hip hop, tap, singing, acting for musical theater, and acting for TV/film. She rehearses with the company another 8 hours to make 20 hours weekly in addition to her regular school load!

Note:

The Grand Prix (ages 15-17) was not awarded this year. The 3 top YAGP honors for dancers may or may not be awarded (Grand Prix, Youth Grand Prix and Hope Award), but are given to a dancer "demonstrating unusual promise for a professional career, whose performance in both classical ballet and contemporary dance excels above all others".
