My Search for the Snow Monkeys of South TexasA few months ago, I succumbed to the fantasy of a virtuously decluttered house and attempted to clean out my overstuffed abode. While sorting through a pile of ancient files—reading lots and throwing away little—I unearthed a story I’d written while I was a graduate student at the University of Texas in 1975. The accompanying photograph instantly whisked me back almost fifty years.It was a crisp, almost chilly day in early fall in South Texas in those prelapsarian times when we Texans regularly had crisp days in early fall.
