North Texas’s Beloved Bar-B-Que Brand Opens Doors in Cedar Creek Lake Area

Soulman’s Bar-B-Que is open for business at its 21st North Texas location at 101 S 3rd St, Mabank, TX 75147, where North Texas’ favorite bar-b-que is now serving up its award-winning smoked meats and sides.

"Mabank is one of the fastest-growing North Texas towns, and Soulman's prides itself on serving the close-knit community and ensuring they are thoroughly satisfied with some of the region’s best barbeque," said Brett Randle, the CEO of Soulman’s Bar-B-Que. As a family-owned and operated establishment for 50 years, Soulman’s has undeniably established itself as a regional leader, renowned for its unwavering commitment to service, community engagement, and exceptional quality standards.”

In celebration of the newest location, on Saturday, August 10th, competitors in the Soulman’s signature rib-eating contest vied for both bragging rights and a charity donation.  Participants included the Fire Chief of Mabank Ricky Myrick and Brian Crull, the Mayor of Gun Barrel City. The winner of the rib-eating contest was John Holcomb, who represented the office of the Mabank, earning a $1000 donation to the Tri-County Library.

Additionally, the Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting for community and business leaders on July 16th at the newest Soulmans’s location where guests were treated to lunch and learned more about the five-decade-long history of Soulman’s in North Texas.

Soulman’s Bar-B-Que originally opened its doors in Pleasant Grove, a Dallas suburb, on October 19, 1974. Since then, they have remained steadfast in their timeless BBQ techniques and treasured family recipes—ones that continue to be used today. Rapidly gaining popularity among local residents, Soulman’s set itself apart as an extraordinary establishment among the ordinary "run-of-the-mill" Bar-B-Que joints.

Soulman’s Bar-B-Que’s array of BBQ meats is cooked "low and slow" over hickory wood, adhering to their time-honored tradition. This unwavering dedication has rightfully earned Soulman’s acclaim as one of the premier barbecue destinations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

“Our decades-long legacy underscores our deep pride in what we do, both in and out of the kitchen. We hold unwavering belief in the North Texas communities we serve and have made it our mission to provide support to local schools, sports & recreation, faith & family organizations, and the business community that supports the success of our neighbors and friends,” affirmed Randle.

When Kaleidoscope Park officially opens on Saturday, Oct. 5, it will be the culmination of years of hard work and planning by the Kaleidoscope Park Foundation and its volunteers, as well as its partners at Communities Foundation of Texas, the City of Frisco and HALL Park. It is only fitting, therefore, that those founders and the entities who have sponsored and funded the development of this world-class art and horticultural destination be feted at a ticketed party prior to the official Grand Opening.

On Friday, Oct. 4, guests will be treated to the Sunset Soirée: A Walk in the Park at Frisco’s Kaleidoscope Park. This first-look event offers a curated guest list the chance to stroll the park and hear from those who were fundamental in its creation and completion.

After arriving at the new HALL Park, guests will have the opportunity to stroll the park while enjoying small bites donated by Vestal’s Catering, gelato provided by Gelato la Boca, beer provided by Rollertown Beerworks, cocktails by Socorro Tequila, and spectacular sips of HALL Wines donated by Craig and Kathryn Hall. Guests at the ticketed event will have the first official chance to view Janet Echelman’s magnificent Butterfly Rest Stop, the largest and most important piece of public art to debut in North Texas in years.

The evening’s program will take place on the Arts Lawn with stage and sound provided by Big D Party Rentals. Guests can expect a welcome from Kaleidoscope Park Foundation’s Board President, the Honorable Florence Shapiro, as well as remarks from:

  • Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney
  • Wayne White, CEO of Communities Foundation of Texas
  • Craig Hall, Founder and CEO of HALL Group
  • Janet Echelman, artist, and
  • Shawn Jackson, Executive Director of Kaleidoscope Park.

In keeping with the bridge that Frisco has built between art and technology, the evening will end with a drone show presented by North Texas’ Sky Elements.

Sunset Soiree is being brought to fruition by its event committee, including:

  • Andrea Palaschak
  • Kelly Bond
  • Donna Carr

Coppell XC Varsity Boys Celebrate with Team After

On Saturday, August 24, Coppell High School’s Cross Country teams made their exciting relay debut at the legendary Greenhill/Luke’s Locker 6-Mile Relay! In a thrilling team format, runners broke into groups of four, each tackling 1.5 miles of a challenging course filled with haybales and hills. With teamwork, determination, and incredible team spirit on full display, Coppell’s athletes faced tough competition and strengthened their bonds, celebrating every step of the way. The joy and energy were undeniable as the team came together for this unforgettable cross-country event.

Coach Wren remarked, “This meet was definitely different from the others we’ll attend this year. I wanted to give the kids a unique experience and a meet they could really enjoy. Each runner ran 1.5 miles instead of a 5k, but the course provided a great challenge. Despite missing several runners due to the SAT, those who competed performed very well.”

Individual and Team Highlights

Varsity Boys:

The team of Srivanth Rudrangi, Tanish Neelapu, Grant O’Neal, and Rohit Kalpathy finished 5th overall with a time of 31:45.62, each runner completing their 1.5-mile leg with impressive times.

Coach Wren added, “We were missing a few varsity runners, but I was pleased with how the team of Grant, Rohit, Srivanth, and Tanish ran. The other varsity team, consisting of sophomores and freshmen—Diego Morales, Sam Meier, Arya Khanna, and Itsuki Pena—competed well against older runners.”

Varsity Girls:

The team of Rachel Arrington, Mallory Sherrer, Annie Reeder, and Maya Easterwood finished 6th overall with a time of 38:48.54, competing against more than 35 teams.

Maya and Mallory had the top times for the girls, praised Coach Wren. “The varsity team just missed out on taking home a trophy. Rachel, Mallory, Annie, and Maya all ran well, and I’m proud of their efforts.”

JV Boys:

Both JV Boys A and JV Boys B teams dominated the competition, each taking 1st place overall in their respective divisions.

  • JV Boys Team A: Rodrick Abrego, Myles Metrano, Aiden George, and Jose Murillo finished 1st overall with a time of 34:29.40 in the JV A division.
  • JV Boys Team B: Farhan Mohammed, Christian Todd, Noah Law, and Hugh Harris also claimed 1st place, clocking a time of 36:16.52 in the JV B division.

Coach Wren praised the teams’ performances: “The team of Jose, Rodrick, Aiden, and Myles finished first in the JV A division, and they all ran exceptionally well. The team of Noah, Hugh, Christian, and Farhan won the JV B division. Winning both JV Boys’ divisions was the highlight of the meet.”

JV Girls:

The team of Shreya Shah, Rhea Bala, Delanee Mullen, and Ava Garcia finished 4th overall with a time of 44:04.65.

Coach Wren remarked, “Ava, Rhea, Shreya, and Delanee competed hard and earned some hardware for their 4th place finish. Ava Garcia really stood out, running the best time among the JV Girls.”

Looking Ahead

Coach Wren concluded: “The timing of this meet is perfect because it comes the week before an extremely important race at North Lakes Park in Denton, where the District Meet will be held in October. I’m really looking forward to seeing how our kids run on the district course against some of the top teams in the state. I have confidence that with a strong week of practice, they’ll perform well next Saturday at the Marcus Coach T Invitational.”

Our team came together for a strong relay debut, showing determination and teamwork on this tough course. Most importantly, they demonstrated incredible bonding and strategy. Until next time, we'll keep pushing forward!

Southlake Tennis Center Named USTA Premier Facility

New program recognizes 50 top tennis facilities in the country

The United States Tennis Association (USTA) announced that Southlake Tennis Center was named a USTA Premier Facility. The inaugural class of Premier Facilities includes 50 of the top tennis facilities across the country. Southlake Tennis Center is one of only two facilities selected in Texas, and one of only a few public tennis centers nationwide.

“The Premier Facility program will lead to industry-wide improvements to the tennis delivery system and elevate the consumer experience,” said Craig Morris, Chief Executive, Community Tennis, USTA. “Facilities like Southlake Tennis Center play an important role in growing tennis and are deserving of this recognition.”

USTA’s Premier Facility program, which launched this year, is designed to cultivate a standard of excellence across the tennis industry by recognizing and rewarding best-in-class tennis operators.

In order to be eligible for the Premier Facility program, facilities must be a USTA member organization, employ certified teaching professionals, and be compliant with the USTA’s Safe Play program.

Additionally, facilities must offer a wide array of tennis programming including introductory, instructional and social programs, as well as meet general facility standards, including the on-going training of staff. Facilities are nominated for this designation, which requires an on-site visit and recommendations from USTA staff.

“We provide programming that meets the needs of all levels of players, with lessons, drills, leagues and teams,” stated General Manager Mia Gordon Poorman. “We’re honored USTA Texas Section and USTA National nominated us for this award based on our on-going investment in staff training and innovative programming.”

Southlake Tennis Center is located at 450 W. Southlake Boulevard in Bicentennial Park. The complex features 17 lighted hard courts, 2 indoor courts and a full-service pro shop. For more information, visit www.southlaketennis.com.
