Elizabeth Bigler, a project engineer at McCarthy Building Companies, Inc., recently was named one of Constructech Magazine’s 2017 Women in Construction. The Women in Construction award annually honors women who go above and beyond to transform work on the jobsite and in the office through the use of technology. Award candidates were selected by Constructech Magazine's editorial staff and consists of the most successful women in construction, women taking advantage of technology and women who represent the most innovative construction companies in the country.

Bigler began her career at McCarthy in 2015 and is currently working on the jobsite at Children’s Health Plano Campus Specialty Center II, a state-of-the-art facility that will house the new Children’s Health Andrews Institute, the first institute of its kind in Texas. On this project, Bigler is incorporating technology through a variety of different software programs, 3D scanning and use of drones which ultimately allows the team to provide a better client experience. In just a short time at McCarthy, Bigler has embarked on an incredible career and has proven herself an esteemed representative of the company.

“I'm grateful to receive such a noteworthy award that honors women in construction,” said Elizabeth Bigler, project engineer for McCarthy Building Companies. “It is exciting to see how current and future technologies will advance different aspects of our industry, and I am thankful that McCarthy, as well as our client, Children’s Health, has allowed our team to explore the use of various technologies to enhance our everyday workflow and project delivery.”

Bigler shows great dedication to her profession through a number of professional affiliations such as TEXO’s Technology Committee and Women’s Events as well as the Young Constructors Council. She contributes to the recruiting of younger women in construction by speaking to the Women in Engineering and Women in Construction student groups at her alma mater, Texas A&M University. Bigler is also a regular participant in McCarthy’s Heart Hats community involvement program, which supports the mission of the American Heart Association through various programs throughout the year as well as community-based organizations such as Mi Escuelita and Thirst No More.

“Elizabeth has been an integral member of our team and continues to contribute to the overall successes of the Children’s project which we are on track to deliver ahead of schedule.  Her willingness to seek out and adopt new technologies has saved us countless hours of conflict resolution during MEP Coordination,” said Matt Bernett, senior project manager for McCarthy.

Bigler graduated from The University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture. She continued her education at Texas A&M University, receiving a Master of Science in Construction Management. Bigler’s dedication to the industry has been recognized via TEXO’s (The Construction Industry Association) 2016 Magnolia Award, the Betty & Grady Stripling ’60 Endowed Scholarship at A&M University, Honorable Mention for the Shelter International Student Architectural Design Competition in Tokyo, Japan, and the Leadership Award for Who’s Who among Students at UT Arlington.
