The Preservation Park Cities Distinguished Speaker Luncheon presented by Highland Park Village featured Brent Hull, an award-winning builder and expert in historically accurate architectural millwork and moldings, as the keynote speaker on the topic “Texas Preservation.”
         
Chaired by Lauren Cooper and Porter Fuqua with Jan and Bruce Harbour as honorary chairs and Jason Morski as president, the reception began with guests enjoying passed hors d’oeuvres and wine, along with a VIP reception and book signing.

        
Jason began by welcoming everyone saying that Preservation Park Cities mission is to preserve and promote the history, architecture, aesthetics, and cultural traditions of the Park Cities.  He also shared insight into his own experience owning and carefully renovating an historic home, his was built in the 1800s, saying “Old is gold!” to a rousing round of applause. He gave insight into upcoming events, including the Historic Home Tour in May 2026 and the Park Cities Car Show in April 2026.
        
After the chairs thanked sponsors, including D Home as magazine sponsor, Brent presented a very interesting slideshow and spoke about how to build better and more beautifully. From the history of housing from post-war in 1946 when the focus was on supplies to the cookie-cutter homes of the 1950s, then through the housing crisis, modern houses and how construction has changed through the years. Focusing on historic buildings, he said that’s what ties the community together, the history of our homes, saying that when we save these buildings, we save who we are.

Brent Hullis an award-winning master builder and expert in historically accurate architectural millwork and moldings. For over thirty years his craftsmanship has enhanced nationally registered properties and homes across the country. Hull honed his expertise at Boston’s North Bennet Street School where he trained in the art of traditional building and historic preservation prior to founding Hull Millwork & Hull Homes in Fort Worth, Texas. When Brent is not working with his teams, speaking or consulting about how to build better and more beautifully, he enjoys reading and writing about historic architecture. He has authored five books on historic millwork; his most recent book released this spring, Millwork: The Design and Manufacturing of Historic Millwork from 1740-1950.

Overview:

• The Historic Home Tour, Distinguished Speaker Luncheon and the Park Cities Car Show are the organization’s only fundraisers each year. The proceeds are allocated to help further our mission to celebrate and promote the preservation of Park Cities architecture, history, aesthetics, and cultural traditions.
• The purpose of the annual Historic Home Tour is to showcase architecturally and historically significant homes of the Park Cities and illustrate how these homes have been restored or remodeled to serve the lifestyle needs of families today.
• The organization landmarks architecturally and historically significant homes in the Park Cities, some of which are on the Historic Home Tour.
• Members of the organization enjoy historic and preservation oriented educational programs.

Preservation Park Cities Mission:
Preservation Park Cities mission is to preserve and promote the history, architecture, aesthetics, and cultural traditions of the Park Cities. Proceeds of the Distinguished Speaker Luncheon, Historic Home Tour and the Classic and Antique Car Show will be used to fund:

• Property Landmarking
• Stewardship of the PPC archives at the UP Library
• HPISD Architecture/History Student Scholarship Award
• The Distinguished Chair for History at HPHS
• The “Save the Top 100” campaign and the new book: The Houses of the Park Cities: An Architectural Guide to the Historic Houses of Highland Park and University Park Texas

The Dallas PULSE secured a 3-1 victory against San Diego Mojo on Thursday, Jan.15, at Comerica Center in Frisco, earning the team’s first-ever franchise win in their inaugural Major League Volleyball season.

Dallas PULSE fell short in the opening set, scoring 15-25, but responded with determination and power, winning the next three sets by scores of 25-16, 25-16, and 25-18.

Sofia Maldonado Diaz, Dallas PULSE outside hitter, recorded a double-double, leading the PULSE with 12 kills and 10 digs, posting a .276 hitting average. Outside hitter Mimi Colyer also contributed 12 kills, while middle blockers Layne Van Buskirk and Trisitin Savage anchored the net on both ends for the PULSE. Van Buskirk finished with nine kills and four blocks, while Savage added 10 kills and three blocks, earning Dallas PULSE Player of the Game.

“Tonight was amazing. It’s our very first win for this franchise, for Dallas, and it’s the best we’ve played as a team,” said Dallas PULSE Head Coach Shannon Winzer. “When you watch us play and see the players having fun and enjoying the game, that team aspect comes a lot easier. When we’re not getting the blocks, we’re getting the digs, and having that many players running speed off a dig is huge.”

For San Diego, outside hitter Grace Loberg led the Mojo with 12 kills on 39 attempts. Former SMU standout Maya Tabron tallied nine kills and 11 digs for San Diego. Middle blockers Kayla Caffey and Marin Crote chipped in eight kills on 15 swings, and seven kills on 18 attempts, for the Mojo.

San Diego jumped out to an early advantage, opening the match with a 4-0 run, and claiming the first set, 25-15, behind Loberg’s four kills.

“I think we came out a bit flat,” said Dallas PULSE middle blocker Layne Van Buskirk. “We reminded ourselves that we’re at our best when we’re having fun, and that really showed in the second set.”

Dallas responded in the second set, finding its rhythm and pulling away for a 25-16 win. The PULSE totaled six blocks in the frame compared to San Diego’s two.

The PULSE carried that momentum into the third set, holding the Mojo to a .143 hitting percentage en route to another 25-16 victory. Dallas entered the fourth set feeling “confident” and “in control,” according to Van Buskirk, as the PULSE added four more blocks to close out the match, 25-18.

Throughout the match, the Dallas PULSE bench buzzed with energy and unity, showcasing the team’s growing chemistry as players celebrated one another with every impressive dig, powerful kill, and ace.

Dallas will hit the road for their first away game of the season, traveling to Georgia to face the Atlanta Vibe on Jan. 22, at 6 p.m. CT. The match will be streamed on Victory+.

Dallas PULSE will return home on Feb. 5, at 7 p.m. CT to host the Omaha Supernovas at Comerica Center. Season and single-game tickets are available at dallaspulsevb.com.

Ram is charging back into the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series — the way that only Ram can. In partnership with Thrill Sports Productions, Ram is launching Race For The Seat, a bold new reality competition series that gives 15 aspiring drivers the chance of a lifetime: to earn a spot in one of five Ram 1500 race trucks on the Kaulig Racing team for the 2026 season.

About the Show

Over eight adrenaline-fueled episodes, contestants will go head-to-head on iconic tracks across the country including Virginia International Raceway and South Boston (Va.) Speedway. Viewers will get an inside look at the drivers’ lives, their triumphs and setbacks, and the raw determination it takes to rise through the ranks of motorsports.
