Bourbon & Banter, the eclectic speakeasy located in the underground level of The Statler in downtown Dallas, has long been acclaimed for its extensive library of spirits and masterful mixologists. Now, the iconic hideaway is inviting you to a one-of-a-kind murder-mystery event featuring a three-course chef-prepared dinner. The murder mystery dinner is presented by Bourbon & Banter and The Murder Mystery Co., which was recently featured on TV’s “Shark Tank.”

 

Sir Warren Peace is hosting a party at his estate that will turn into a night of mystery, intrigue and murder you will never forget. The Fort Worth Botanic Garden is well known for its Japanese Garden, 7.5 acres filled with cherry trees, Japanese maples, magnolias, bamboo, bridges and ponds filled with koi fish. The Japanese Garden is recognized in both spring and fall with a Japanese Festival, which celebrates Japanese art and culture along with the spectacular garden. This year’s spring festival will be held April 20-21.

 

During the festival, Rock Springs Café, the food and beverage purveyor in the Fort Worth Botanic Garden, will be offering a sake bar in celebration of Japanese culture. The bar will feature both hot and cold sake and sake-based cocktails:

The Flynn at Live Oak

Merriman Anderson Architects announces construction is underway on The Flynn at Live Oak, located at 4931 Live Oak Street in Old East Dallas. Conor Commercial Real Estate is developing the five-story, 327-unit apartment building, adjacent to downtown and near Swiss Avenue, Munger Place and one block off Bryan Street. 

Beyond its prime location, the development offers first class amenities including co-working space with private offices and standing desks, fitness center, clubroom with fireplace and bar, an onsite mini-market grocer, dog park, pool + lounge area + outdoor dining/grilling area, and two landscaped courtyards. A top floor speakeasy is a contemporary space for relaxing and offers views of downtown Dallas and Fair Park. 

Merriman Anderson Architects conceptualized an upscale community that complements the vibrant neighborhood. The exterior skin is a combination of two brick types, three siding types, and metal accents with notable architectural detailing, oversized balconies, and ground-floor patios affording pedestrian access to the street. The unit floor plans include studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments. Hardscapes and landscaping were a priority along the street level to create plenty of greenspace for residents.

For the past 32-years, Vogel (formerly known as Vogel Alcove) has brought A-list entertainers to town to raise funds in support of their mission. Past headliners include Johnny Mathis, Diana Ross, Lily Tomlin, Tony Bennett, Vince Gill, and Itzhak Pearlman, to name a few. But this year, Vogel’s President and CEO Karen Hughes wanted something different. In celebration of Vogel’s NEW Collin County center that opened just a few short months ago, this year’s annual Arts Performance Event took place on Saturday, March 30, at the Omni PGA Frisco Resort and featured an unforgettable performance by Barenaked Ladies.

 

“Last year, I stood at this podium at this event and announced that for the first time ever Vogel would be expanding and invited all those in attendance to join us on this journey to serve more children.” Said Hughes. “I am thrilled to announce that in December 2023 our second site opened in North Dallas and this week we received the Certificate of Occupancy for our 3rd site at the Shops at Redbird in South Dallas which will open in the coming months. With these new sites we can double our capacity to now serve approximately 400 children daily.”

 

Presented by Oliver Wyman, Inc., the night began with a reception in the spacious Ryder Cup Ballroom Pre-Function Area where Event Chairs Ramey and Greg Colgan joined guests as they mingled and enjoyed cocktails and light bites. Doors to the Ryder Cup Ballroom opened to showcase a curated dinner and program, featuring a spirited game of Heads or Tails, emceed by CW33’s Yolonda Williams. After dinner, the crowd of 600 strong was treated to a rousing performance by the Barenaked Ladies. The band performed hit songs “Big Bang Theory Theme”, “One Week”, “If I had $1,000,000” and others but also delighted attendees with covers from Taylor Swift, Olivia Culpo, Devo, Def Leopard, and Violent Femmes. After their performance, guests spilled out onto the Ryder Cup Ballroom Lawn for an After Glow dance party led by Dallas’ favorite party band, Emerald City.

 

Since 1987, over 18,000 young, homeless children have walked through the doors of Vogel Alcove. The Annual Arts Performance Event is Vogel Alcove’s flagship fundraiser, raising a significant percentage of their operating budget. The generosity of Vogel's supporters plays a critical role in giving children back what homelessness has taken from them: safety, respect, and the chance to be a child. Vogel Alcove provides educational, developmental, and therapeutic services to children and families affected by homelessness. DALLAS, Texas, April 3, 2024—The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden held its annual Corporate Appreciation Dinner on March 26th. This event is held to honor and extend gratitude to nearly 70 corporate sponsors and donors who help support the Arboretum year-round. Corporate sponsorships underwrite programs that help maintain the garden and promote education at the Dallas Arboretum and beyond. Taste Addison has been celebrating the community’s culinary leaders for decades, helping to elevate Addison’s reputation as one of Texas’s best night out destinations. This Friday, April, 26, Taste Addison kicks off their annual event season by honoring culinary leaders of tomorrow – all while raising funds for a great cause. Taste on the Tarmac, an elevated tasting happy hour experience, combines the culinary arts and community,  from 5:30 – 9 p.m. at the beautiful new Galaxy FBO at Addison Airport. Guests will enjoy fabulous bites and sips while benefiting the Metrocrest Services Sack Summer Hunger Program. The event is presented by Oncor.

The stars of this celebration will be the CFBISD high school culinary arts students who are competing by making their best Taste Bite. A fun twist to the competition --- 50% of the ingredients used in creating the Taste Bite must be items that are typically donated to a food pantry.

Guests attending Taste on the Tarmac will vote to select the People’s Choice Award. Top honors will be voted on by the Mayors of the Metrocrest region, including Addison Mayor Bruce Arfsten, Farmers Branch Mayor Terry Lynne, Carrollton Mayor Steve Babick and Coppell Mayor Wes Mays. The winning entry will have the opportunity to present their Taste Bite at Taste Addison, May 31 – June 2 in Addison Circle Park. Recipes for all of the entries will be available at Metrocrest Services Food Pantry during the summer months.

Metrocrest Services specializes in helping individuals, families, and seniors navigate through crisis situations and work to stabilize their lives for a brighter future. During the summer, weekly meal bags with a combination of pantry items and fresh foods are distributed to students’ homes by a dedicated corps of church partners and Metrocrest Services volunteers. Metrocrest Services will also be a beneficiary of donations at Taste Addison.
