Seven Brides for Seven Brothers Is Fantastic!

HPHS is Turning the Park Cities Upside-Down with this

Same Day Marriage, Bride’s Hidden Agenda & Group Kidnapping by Her New In-Laws

To Form One Big Happy Family

Pull up your boots and hold onto your hats when this high school version of the all-dancing, all-singing, all-new production of the rip-roarin' musical comedy classic bursts onto the HPHS Linda Raya stage.  Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is a big, brawling, rollicking show filled with rambunctious energy and set in the 1850s Oregon Territory. This beloved musical based on the glorious MGM hit film and Stephen Vincent Benet’s short story "The Sobbin' Women" tells the story of Adam Pontipee and his backwoods brothers' unusual pursuit of brides. When Adam goes to town to get a wife, he miraculously convinces the beautiful and feisty Milly to marry him that same day, and then she immediately starts reforming her six rowdy brothers-in-law. When her plan to marry off the boys backfires, this exuberant rousing musical kicks into high gear with a combination of daredevil dancing and classic songs like “Bless Your Beautiful Hide”, "Goin' Courtin", “Sobbin’ Women”, and "Wonderful, Wonderful Day".

Performances in the HPHS Palmer Auditorium will be held:

  • Saturday, September, 9th at 7pm
  • Sunday, September 10th at 2pm
  • Saturday, September 16th at 7pm
  • Sunday, September 17th at 2pm

The HPHS Chapter of the International Thespian Society, led by its officers pictured below, is supporting fellow students effected by Hurricane Harvey.

The State Thespian Organization is asking for donations to send students affected by Hurricane Harvey to the State Thespian Festival in November.  The HPHS chapter will be using the net proceeds from Concessions and Fan Mail tonight, and all subsequent shows of this production, to provide scholarships to those students.

Since its off-Broadway opening in 1990, FOREVER PLAID has become a huge hit around the world and a favorite among audiences everywhere.  Its barbershop quartet explosion of harmony has influenced the creation of THE SOUND OF PLAID.  Now, being performed for the first time ever in Highland Park High School, this show combines old song classics and new funny characters, creating a unique twist on a familiar favorite.

The premise of THE SOUND OF PLAID is similar to FOREVER PLAID: In 1960's America, friends who met in the audiovisual club form a student choral group. When they discover that their high school music program was going to be cut from the curriculum, they decide to do a benefit to raise money. On the way to pick up their custom made plaid tuxedos and skirts, their bus is struck by lightning. Although THE SOUND OF PLAID are taken from this planet, through the Power of Harmony and the Expanding Holes in the Ozone Layer (and other astro-technical stuff) they are allowed to come back to perform the show they never got to do in life.

Audiences prepare to be entertained by this musical’s outrageously imaginative storyline, high-energy choreography and oldie, yet goodie tunes, such as “Chain Gang,” “Day-O,” “Kingston Market,” “Lady of Spain,” “Magic Moments” and “Love is a Many Splendored Thing.”  This show is sure to be anything BUT a sleeper – especially to the Grandparents of our students snapping their fingers!

Performances in the HPHS Palmer Auditorium will be held on Saturdays, September 6 and 13 at 7 p.m. and Sundays, September 7 and 14 at 2 p.m.  Tickets go on sale September 2 at the Fine Arts Box Office from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on weekdays and one hour before each show time.  Ticket prices are $10 for reserved seating and $8 for general admission.  For further information, please call 214-780-3881.
