Galleria Dallas has been one of the top holiday destinations for shoppers across North Texas and around the world for more than four decades. From the iconic 95-foot-tall Christmas tree to Missile Toes, the ice-skating, back-flipping Santa who shoots fireworks from his skates, the holiday celebration at Galleria Dallas is recognized as one of the grandest nationwide. 

 

 

 

The holiday season at Galleria Dallas kicks off Nov. 10 with the installation of America’s tallest indoor Christmas tree, which features LED lighting by Twinkly that allows for brilliant, animated and immersive light shows on the tree. The tree has 850 branches – each the size of a small Christmas tree – plus more than 15,000 ornaments, 215,000 points of light and a 100-pound, 10-foot-tall LED star. The tree will be complete on the evening of Nov. 13.

 

Festivities continue throughout the season with live entertainment and numerous other holiday events, Nov. 22-Jan. 6.

 

 

 

Santa arrives at Galleria Dallas on Friday, Nov. 22, and will welcome guests in Santaland on Level I near Banana Republic with a magical experience and amazing visuals. Galleria Dallas is proud to offer the area’s most technologically advanced Santa experience, where families board a magical train, seeing the sights as they move from Dallas to the North Pole, and thanks to Santaland’s special wish list technology, Santa knows what kids want under the tree on Christmas morning. This year, there will be designated times for Santa experiences for those with pets, families with children with special needs, and even a Spanish-speaking Santa. They say every snowflake is unique, and so is every visit to SNOWDAY, the acclaimed immersive exhibit that changes every holiday season and has become a tradition for DFW families. Guests will explore the secret town where Santa’s elves live, with nearly 10,000 square feet of Hollywood-grade sets and styling creating some of the elves’ favorite places, along with state-of-the-art, touch-free photo technology. SNOWDAY is integrating AI image processing into a photo op for the first time, which will allow for surreal holiday photos of guests. Additional new features include a new multimedia show including lights, sounds and videos, culminating with “real” snowfall; a Christmas Kaleidoscope photo op; and, of course, the return of fan-favorite rooms like the Christmas lights maze, which now has twinkling lights. Guests also can purchase snacks at Santa’s helpers’ favorite watering hole, The Tipsy Elf. Even if you’ve been to SNOWDAY before, you’ll want to come again to capture all its magical, Instagrammable moments.

 

 

 

For thousands of shoppers, a trip to Galleria Dallas to enjoy the abundance of sales and promotions offered on Black Friday (Nov. 29) starts the holiday season in good cheer. This year, there are even more reasons to choose Galleria Dallas – the newly expanded H&M including the first H&M Home in Texas, UNIQLO, the expanded Lululemon, Pandora and North Italia.

 

The holiday festivities kick off at noon on Black Friday with the impressive Grand Tree Lighting Celebration, which features a spectacular free ice-skating show with nationally recognized figure skaters including two-time National Champion and 2022 Olympian Ashley Cain, two-time Olympian Keegan Messing and 2022 Olympians Kaitlin Hawayek and Jean-Luc Baker. Stay for the fireworks finale as the tree is lit by Missile Toes, Galleria’s famed ice-skating Santa. The lighting celebration will be hosted again Saturday, Nov. 30 at noon. 

 

A ticketed Grand Holiday Ice Show on Dec. 8 will benefit local charity Broadway Dallas.  Among the featured skaters: 2022 Olympian Mariah Bell. Tickets for family pods will be available for purchase in November at GalleriaDallas.com/holiday.

 

Galleria Dallas will celebrate Hanukkah on Dec. 29, with a Menorah Lighting led by Rabbi Andrew Paley from Temple Shalom and a performance by Kol Shalom, Temple Shalom’s youth choir. Sufganiyots will be served to attendees. 

 

During the holiday season, Galleria Dallas shines with holiday décor top to bottom throughout each level. Stonebriar Facial and Oral Surgery, an oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMS) practice in Frisco, Texas, will open a new location in McKinney at 2164 N. Lake Forest Dr., Ste. 712. The practice will begin treating patients there, starting Sept. 27.

"We’ve been treating McKinney patients for over 20 years, and we’re happy to officially be full time members of the McKinney community,” said Kirk E. Scott, MD, DDS, managing partner of Stonebriar Facial and Oral Surgery. “This new location will enable us to better meet the needs of our patients and colleagues in McKinney.”

This is Stonebriar Facial and Oral Surgery’s second Collin County location. The other is at 5757 Warren Pkwy, Ste. 320, in Frisco.

Matthew M. Kelley, DMD, and Sandy Ha, DDS, MD, will treat patients at the McKinney location, with Dr. Kelley as the lead surgeon. Dr. Kelley is a Collin County native, who grew up in Frisco and currently calls Plano home. He provides a full scope of OMS services, is a frequent presenter on a wide variety of OMS topics and is active in OMS research. In addition, Dr. Kelley is certified in basic life support, advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support and advanced trauma life support.

Dr. Kelley earned his bachelor’s degree from The University of Oklahoma and his master’s and dental degrees from Midwestern University, where he graduated with honors. Following dental school, Dr. Kelley completed his surgical training at NOVA Southeastern University in Florida. There, he served as chief resident, leading the head and neck trauma team at two level one hospital systems.

“Treating patients is what we do best and what we’re passionate about,” said Dr. Kelley. “Our new McKinney location will allow us to treat more patients, particularly in the McKinney area, where there is an increased demand for OMS services, and that’s something we’re all excited about.”

Dr. Ha added that the practice has been planning the new McKinney location for quite some time, and that the community and its people are important to the Stonebriar Facial and Oral Surgery team.

“We treat patients from all over the Metroplex and beyond, but we are particularly fond of our Collin County roots,” said Dr. Ha. “We have a lot of ties in McKinney, and the expansion is a natural next step for us.”

Dr. Ha earned her bachelor’s degree in public health at the University of California, Berkeley and her DDS from the University of California Los Angeles School of Dentistry. Afterward, she earned her MD at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine and completed her OMS residency through the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

During her residency, Dr. Ha received extensive experience in dentoalveolar surgery, office based IV anesthesia, bone grafting, implant reconstruction services, immediate implant placement, facial trauma, orthognathic surgery, TMJ surgery, management of benign and malignant pathology and more.

In addition, Dr. Ha is certified in pediatric advanced life support, advanced trauma life support, advanced cardiac life support and basic life support. She is a member of a number of professional organizations and has published research articles on a variety of OMS-related topics, such as cleft palate treatment, orthodontic and craniofacial research, and dental management of hypertensive and diabetic patients by general dentists.

In a celebration of art, sports, and Texas pride, Brad Oldham Sculpture and the Texas Rangers announced a unique collaboration marking the 25th anniversary of Brad Oldham Sculpture with the ultimate Texas Rangers fan and art enthusiast in mind. 

The centerpiece of this collaboration is a limited-edition sculpture titled Baseball Forever, a lost-wax cast bronze baseball sculpture. Only 25 editions of Baseball Forever have been created and each has been hidden across 25 locations throughout Dallas-Fort Worth, encouraging Rangers fans and art lovers alike to discover this special treasure.  

Created by artists Brad Oldham and Christy Coltrin, Baseball Forever is a lasting testament to the deep connection between the Texas Rangers, Texas artists, the sport of baseball, and the Lone Star state. More than a work of art, it is an instant heirloom destined to be cherished for generations to come. 

“We all have those moments in life that shape who we are, and for me, sports have always been a big part of that journey,” said Brad Oldham. “To have the opportunity to celebrate 25 years of creating public art and to collaborate with the Texas Rangers, a team who just reached the pinnacle of success as World Series champions, feels like my two worlds coming together in the most meaningful way. I hope Baseball Forever resonates with fans as a symbol of the unity and passion that both art and sports inspire."

Nestled inside Baseball Forever is a petite edition of Brad Oldham Sculpture’s The Traveling Man, the iconic 41-foot-tall Texas figure, reimagined in bronze. The smaller sculpture, aptly named Where Champions Live, honors the Texas Rangers’ recent World Series victory. The sculpture shows The Traveling Man proudly standing on home plate, wearing a Rangers cap and a baseball in his heart, a powerful symbol of the team’s championship legacy.

“The Texas Rangers are proud to support Texas-based artists such as Brad Oldham and Christy Coltrin, whose work reflects the spirit and culture of our state,” said Travis Dillon, Senior Vice President, Texas Rangers. “Collaborating with Brad Oldham Sculpture on Baseball Forever allows us to celebrate our history while providing our fans with a unique and memorable way to engage with the team."

Dallas technician Adrian Ortiz recently won first place in the Paint Competition at the Auto Body Association of Texas (ABAT) BIG SHOTS Competition at the Irving Convention Center. 

“The best part was I got to try new products and learn new things,” said Ortiz. “These are things I can apply daily in my job. The biggest opportunity was being trusted to step into the booth to show what I had learned over the course of my career thus far.”

Ortiz has worked for Park Place Bodywerks for 18 years. He is a certified painter for Bentley, McLaren, and Mercedes-Benz automobiles. 

“It is a great honor that our Members can publicly show their strengths and represent Park Place in such a good light,” said Brandon Gillespy, Bodywerks Dallas Shop Manager. “We celebrate their accomplishments and value their commitment to excellence.”

Born and raised in East Dallas, Ortiz graduated from Woodrow Wilson High and the Autobody Tech program at Eastfield Community College. He married his high school sweetheart, Johanna, and they live on the east side of White Rock Lake with their two children. In his free time, Ortiz is restoring his high school car: a 1962 Chevy Nova.

When asked what advice he’d give someone just starting out in the business, Ortiz answered, “Be a sponge and ask questions…learn as much as possible. We have some of the best technicians in the country that reside within the walls at Park Place.” 

Other Bodywerks Dallas members representing Park Place in the annual statewide competition included Philip Glass, who placed third in the Estimating Competition out of 25 participants, and Bodywerks Estimator Davis Richards, a two-time winner in the competition. After his first place win last year, Richards volunteered to judge the 2024 estimating competition.

New film spotlights rewilding, a critical, nature-first approach to protecting threatened and endangered species

DALLAS – American Humane, the nation’s first national humane organization and the world’s largest certifier of animal welfare practices, will premiere its latest documentary, ESCAPE FROM EXTINCTION REWILDING. The film, distributed by Western Films, starts its theatrical run on Sept. 27 at Angelika Film Center—Dallas in Mockingbird Station at 5321 E Mockingbird Ln., Dallas 75206. The Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit has a four-star rating on Charity Navigator. Proceeds from the film go to American Humane’s animal welfare efforts.

“As we stand at the precipice of what many scientists call the sixth mass extinction, there is an even greater need to bolster conservation efforts globally,” said Robin Ganzert, president and CEO of American Humane and the film’s executive producer. “Rewilding is a vital approach to conservation that allows us to restore natural ecosystems and protect these vulnerable species.

“We hope that this documentary will not only highlight the significance of rewilding but bring together film-goers across the country, and worldwide, in support of the humane treatment of animals.”

While Dallas Zoo has its conservation mission for the preservation and protection of whooping cranes, the Fort Worth Zoo was featured in the series' previous installment, ESCAPE FROM EXTINCTION (2020), which showcased the zoo’s critical conservation efforts for elephants and reptiles.

Fort Worth Zoo is active in species reintroduction both locally and globally - beginning the reintroduction project of the state reptile, the Texas-horned lizards. The program is operated alongside the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

With nearly 1 million species at risk, the documentary spotlights a nature-first approach to conservation, aiming to halt the alarming loss of biodiversity. It follows wildlife experts and conservationists who help rewild endangered species around the world by restoring and protecting natural ecosystems and allowing them to return to their wild state.

“Many people are passionate about preventing animal extinction, but the magnitude of the problem can feel overwhelming,” said Matthew Brady, the filmmaker.  In this film, we tackle the issue by presenting practical, actionable case study solutions that make a real difference—all brought to life by the enchanting voice of Meryl Streep.”
