The Bar Method is the pioneer in the growing barre-based exercise programs with safe, fun, hour-long workouts that use isometric exercises to strengthen and tone all major muscle groups, followed by periods of stretching to elongate, lengthen and align the body.  By incorporating elements of Pilates, yoga, and other strength training workouts, this barre workout will sculpt your entire body, improve your flexibility, and boost your endurance in a way that only barre can. The Bar Method Preston Hollow is the first studio owned and operated by Moore.

The 33rd Annual Jim Bradshaw Memorial Stars in Recovery event featuring the legendary Ray Wylie Hubbard took place on Thursday, April 15th at Artspace111 in Fort Worth, with hundreds more watching the program virtually. A longtime cult figure among fans of outlaw country, Hubbard is a singer/songwriter specializing in hard-edged character studies and rough-hewn, compassionate meditations on life and relationships. Upon entering the venue, guests browsed the silent auction items while enjoying a stripped-down performance from local musician, Rachel Stacy. Once inside the reception hall, Event Chair Shauna Jenkins, welcomed attendees and brought Recovery Resource Council CEO, Eric Niedermayer and Board of Directors Chairwoman, Maureen Maidlow to the stage to share new findings about how alcoholism and drug addiction are impacting our North Texas community. They talked about the many ways the Council is supporting those seeking recovery and the programs in place to those seeking a life in recovery the tools to do so. Robin Bagwell, daughter of the late Jim Bradshaw (for whom this event is named) thanked those in attendance for their support and encouraged those watching virtually to continue to bid generously on auction items. Rachel Stacy took to the stage to share her personal connection to Hubbard, who encouraged her to seek sobriety nine years ago, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the room when the two of them hugged onstage in celebration of their shared journey in recovery. Hubbard had the audience chuckling with his many anecdotes and stories. He generously shared many nuggets of wisdom acquired over the many years of his personal recovery journey that touched everyone in the room and those watching at home. It was an exciting surprise, when Hubbard treated guests to a song and closed the show by singing, “The Messenger”. Since its inception, the annual Stars in Recovery Luncheon has featured well-known and beloved celebrities speaking publicly about their struggles and triumphs over alcohol, substance misuse and mental health issues. Due to restrictions, this year’s Stars event was offered both live and virtually. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Recovery Resource Council, North Texas’ largest non-residential non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention, intervention, treatment and recovery of thousands of individuals and families struggling with alcohol, substance misuse and trauma. If you would like to support the work of Recovery Resource Council, consider attending their upcoming fundraisers. The Power of Prevention will take place the evening of September 28 and feature former basketball star Chris Herren and the 2021 Golf Classic will take place on November 3 at Cowboys Golf Club.

About Recovery Resource Council

April Oral Cancer Awareness Month.jpeg

April is Oral Cancer Awareness Month and Dr. Mona Stone of Stone Surgical Arts is passionate about educating the community on oral health and early prevention. Each year more than 45,000 Americans receive a diagnosis of oral cancer from their doctor and sadly more than 8,000 Americans will die from this preventable disease. If detected early, oral cancer can be treated effectively using radiation, surgery, and chemotherapy. Your dental professional is best equipped to detect early signs of oral and pharyngeal cancer, but you can monitor your own body for symptoms which include:

- Difficulty chewing or swallowing, or difficulty moving your jaw or tongue
- Numbness of the tongue or other areas in your mouth
- Pain in only one ear, unaccompanied by hearing loss
- A sore, lump or other irritation in your mouth, on your lip, or in your throat
- A white or red spot in your mouth, especially on the mucosal membrane (inside cheek)

If you are concerned about any of these symptoms, please make an appointment to visit your dentist for an examination. Only a biopsy can confirm an oral cancer diagnosis. Typically an incisional biopsy from the abnormal tissue is obtained.? A good adjunct tool is used to help identify lesions more likely to have premalignant or malignant changes. Specimens are evaluated for dysplasia which reflects cellular changes such as loss of basal cell polarity, increased mitotic activity etc. Depending on the degree of epithelial involvement, a histological grade is given: mild, moderate, severe, carcinoma in situ or squamous cell carcinoma. Not all white lesions are bad; when they are red/ulcerative or mixed white and red, suspicions are higher.

How can you prevent Oral Cancers?

- Cut out tobacco in all forms
- Drink moderately, and never combine alcohol and tobacco use
- Limit exposure to the sun, using a high Sun Protection Formula (SPF) sunscreen and lip balm
- Eat plenty of natural foods, including more fruits and vegetables
- Additionally, brush and floss regularly, exercise to maintain a healthy immune system, and see your dentist regularly.

Held Monday, March 22, this year’s Symphony of Chefs by Design was the ultimate chef-driven culinary dinner experience created with guests in mind. The evening included all of the unique elements guests have enjoyed over the years and provided three thoughtful celebration options for the 2021 experience. Instead of the usual in-person dining event supporters have become accustomed to, table sponsors were able to design an experience that they and their guests were comfortable with and create their own one-of-a-kind dining experience. Options included the choice to dine in the private dining room of a restaurant, host a chef-prepared experience at their home, or enjoy an interactive virtual chef cooking class and dinner.

Executive Chef & Proprietor Janice Provost of Parigi, hosted Adam and Aimee Hall and the guests of Alliant Insurance Services in her private Parisian speakeasy event space. Jaime and Greg Lyons chose to entertain their guests in the private dining room of Nick & Sam’s Park Cities with an incredible menu prepared by Executive Chef Juan “Pancho” Jasso. Antoinette and Barry Davis opened their Preston Hollow estate to friends who enjoyed a meal prepared by Executive Chef Luke Rogers of Cathedral Italian Bistro, opening Summer 2021. Urban Rio’s private rooftop event space in Plano was the scene for Bonnie and Nathan Shea and the Urban Energy Funds family to fête guests with a special menu prepared by Executive Chef Brandon Moore of Ocean Prime. Cristi and Kevin Ryan’s home offered guests an informal indoor/outdoor setting to enjoy a menu prepared by Nick & Sam’s Steakhouse Executive Chef Jon Kleifgen. Blaine Staniford, Executive Chef of Grace and Little Red Wasp Restaurants showcased his culinary talents in the Highland Park home of Kaari & Jim Wicklund, while across town, Diana Zamora of Harvest Project Food Rescue entertained guests of sponsor, Edge Natural Resources at the Second Floor at The Exchange in the new AT&T Discovery District. Each chef paired their dishes with wines from LangeTwins Family Winery and Vineyards.

Funds raised from this event will support KidLinks efforts to provide Healing, Hope and Happiness for the special needs of children through music and media. For more information, visit www.kidlinks.org. This event was made possible in part by Urban Energy Funds, Cristi and Kevin Ryan, Georgia & Marc Lyons, Moss Adams LP, Alliant Insurance Services, Inc., Edge Natural Resources LLC, Kaari & Jim Wicklund, Texas Capital Bank, Ann and J.W. Brown, and J.P. Morgan Private Bank.

Dr. Mona Stone and Martin Stone

Dr. Mona Stone recently hosted an open house to debut Stone Surgical Arts to clients and supporters. Dr. Stone specializes in oral and maxillofacial surgery to correct conditions of the mouth and surrounding facial structures, including the head, neck, and jaw. Specialized services include dental implants, TMJ disorders, sleep apnea, sinus lift, and other dental services. This new Westlake practice will also offer the community cosmetic facial services such as Botox and facial fillers, neck and face lifts, chin sculpting and reshaping, skin lesion removal, and other facial services. Dr. Stone’s goal with this new practice is to maximize her patient’s quality of life and care by collaborating with different providers (PCP, bariatric surgeons, physical therapy, nutritionists  etc). Guests in attendance were treated to a tour of the new practice, enjoyed Texas-shaped Truffles from Chocolate Hangover and champagne from Get Cozy, a vintage mobile bar. Westlake Mayor Laura Wheat and members of the Chamber of Commerce were present to give encouraging words and welcome Dr. Stone into the community as well as John McGreevy, CEO of Methodist Southlake, and staff from the Department of Surgery from Baylor Grapevine.

The Stone Surgical Arts space was designed to attract consumers who would normally travel into the Dallas or Ft. Worth for treatments, while also appealing to patients from the suburban neighborhoods. High ceilings, glass walls and soothing lime green walls with charcoal and white accents can be found throughout the office and create a chic, but relaxed, vibe the moment you step into this modern surgical clinic. Much of the layout was driven by the lab-intensive nature of the skin cancer surgery process. From anywhere within the clinic, the views to the outside and the natural light throughout create an uplifting feeling.

Seasoned by over 10 years of clinical experience in her field, and backed by solid academic training and credentials, Dr. Stone enjoys a high satisfaction rating from patients who credit her with providing excellent dental and medical treatment and aftercare. Dr. Stone is a preferred provider with all major insurance carriers and financing is available for those who need the option. Dr. Stone is on staff as an attending surgeon at three local hospitals including Baylor Scott and White in Grapevine, Irving, and Methodist Health. In addition to her role in the community, she is the mother of two beautiful toddlers, Max (1) and Sofia (3), and an avid fan of motor sports and Formula 1.

Stone Surgical Arts is located at 72 Andorra Drive, Suite 110, Westlake, TX 76262, 817-918-3666. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM. For more information, visit https://www.stonesurgicalarts.com.

Event Chairs, Ty and Tilda Beasley. Photo c/o Thomas Garza

On Wednesday, September 16,  K&L Gates presented an in-person program with former LPGA golfer, Laura Baugh, benefiting Recovery Resource Council.  Approximately 75 enthusiastic supporters gathered at the Hyatt Regency to hear Baugh share her experiences as a young mother touring with the LPGA, her struggles with fame and alcoholism, and her recovery journey to today’s 23-years of sobriety. This was one of the very first in-person events to be held since the pandemic shut down the social scene last March. From temperature taking to hand sanitizing stations, every precaution was taken to ensure the safety of guests and theater-style seating was utilized to allow attendees to socially distance.

“September is National Recovery Month, so moving forward with this event was important for us to be visibly advocating for recovery,” said Eric Niedermayer, CEO, Recovery Resource Council. “COVID-19 is not going to hold Recovery Resource Council back from raising funds, openly attacking the stigma of substance mis-use and celebrating recovery stories like Laura Baugh’s that emphasize that recovery is possible and sustainable - one day at a time.”

Event Chairs Tilda and Ty Beasley welcomed attendees and shared these reasons for their leadership of this event saying, “We are passionate about providing hope through the services provided by the Recovery Resource Council in general. However, the COVID-19 situation fueled our passion even more because it’s created a sense of loneliness and despair, which are the enemies of the hope and support people need when battling addiction. We wanted to join the team at RRC and our generous sponsors to keep the hope and support flowing for people in need.”

Michael Molthan, host of M2 the Rock, was the program’s emcee. Robin Bagwell and Lauren Gillette were given the task of making the plea for donations. Robin made the room erupt with laughter when she quipped, “I know you’ve got money because no one is traveling or going to concerts, so don’t tell me you can’t give!”

And it’s not too late to support the work of RRC! Virtual tickets are now available for post-show viewing for a $100 and can be purchased at https://recoverycouncil.org. Funds are needed as the region sees an uptick in child abuse and domestic violence, and alcohol sales increase. The money raised through sponsorships, ticket sales and the silent auction at The Power of Prevention event supports a portion of The Council's operating budget. Funds raised will free up program dollars to provide more direct services including screenings, assessments, and outpatient services for addiction and substance use disorder, counseling for veterans and their families, and prevention education for at-risk children and youth.

Event sponsors included K&L Gates, Ronald Clinkscale, Betty and Eric Spomer, KPMG, The Right Step DFW, FBFK, Hartline Barger LLP, Tilda and Ty Beasley, Vicki and Eric Niedermayer, Nancy and Jack Zoog, Santé, ACS, Winstead, RSM, and UST.
