Did you know that using nitrogen in your tires could help to improve your car’s fuel efficiency, suspension and handling? Save money by liking Autoscope on Facebook and receive free nitrogen for your vehicle’s tires plus a complimentary 21-point inspection.

About 70 percent of the air we breathe is nitrogen, so when you put air in your tires you mostly fill them with nitrogen. The problem is with the other 30 percent or so of other gases that make up the air we breathe. Oxygen is essential for life, but it does little to keep your tires inflated—especially when temperatures rise in the Texas heat. Since oxygen molecules are smaller than nitrogen molecules, they leak out more readily—leaving your tires under-inflated.

Underinflated tires create more friction with the road, which puts extra stress on the tires, suspension, steering, and your engine. It also limits gas mileage. Using nitrogen in your tires could save you money in the long run.

Oxygen is also notorious for reacting with other substances. Oxidation generally increases under high pressure and temperatures. Reducing the amount of oxygen in your tires helps protect rubber, metal and other materials in your tires and wheels.

The presence of water vapor can make for erratic changes in tire pressure. As water condenses and evaporates inside the tire with changes in temperature and pressure, it becomes difficult to predict just what the tire pressure will be. This is one reason racing teams use nitrogen to inflate their tires.
