The Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek was the perfect stylish setting for a splendid evening highlighting Tour Décor’s presentation of Antiques Roadshow’s Stuart P. Whitehurst talk about Elements of Classical Style – The Art of Collecting in the 21st Century benefitting ICAA – Institute of Classical Architecture and Art.
Hosted by Tour Décor’s Lea Barfield and interior designer Margaret Chambers, ASID, RID, the event began with a very chic reception in the Promenade Room spotlighting a very special door prize: a late 18th Century painted and parcel – gilt Gustavian mirror which the duo had purchased in a recent European buying trip - to benefit ICAA and their New Heights Program, middle school courses promoting an appreciation of classical design.
Guests were seated as Margaret welcomed the crowd and spoke about Tour Décor Destinations & Interiors, which is a personalized wholesale furnishings and antique buying trip to Europe with her and Lea. They work with clients to create a customized itinerary tailored to the individual style and taste of one’s home, while providing a seamless, turn-key buying service. With over 30 years of experience, this duo has compiled an extensive "little black book," featuring a curated list of hand-picked antique sources, hotels, private apartments and restaurants which offer an insider's perspective of Europe. Utilizing their access to a wide network of dealers and owners of private estates and châteaux, their clients find extraordinary pieces at prices and quantities not available in America.
Valerie Wood from ICAA shared a video of students in the New Heights Program classes working with plaster moldings and touring buildings around the Dallas area specific to their studies. Their awe and interest in the elegant and classic designs was truly inspiring.
Lea introduced Stuart, who charmed the audience with his thoroughly entertaining and very interesting stories of his experiences at auctions while working with Sotheby’s and appraisals with Antiques Roadshow. His slideshow included wonderful representations and insightful comparisons of antiques and modern interpretations of classic pieces with advice about investing in each.
After a rousing round of applause, everyone was treated to desserts and refreshments as they chatted with Lea, Margaret and Stuart about their own experiences and gathered more information about Tour Décor.
