From Jo Alch, RN, Founder, Pajamas for Seniors:

Did you know that 1.3 million elderly Americans live in nursing homes and 70% of them have little to no income or savings? More than half of Americans living in nursing homes have no close relatives, and rarely, if ever, have visitors. Also, these residents are given less than $60 per month to cover all their personal needs, including things like face wash, seasonal clothing, holiday cards, batteries, things we take for granted.

As a seasoned hospice and home care nurse, I saw firsthand that most patients admitted to nursing homes only had one possession – a stained, worn hospital gown. Necessities like a warm set of pajamas to sleep in are a rare luxury. We have started a nonprofit, Pajamas for Seniors, to address the ongoing need for sleepwear for our precious seniors. With the fastest growing demographic in the country being the elderly, organizations that support seniors receive the least support.
