When Betsy Cameron advises clients about whether to add on or move on, she knows what she’s talking about. She has renovated and acted as the general contractor for each of the six properties that she and her husband have lived in during the last 11 years – and every renovation turned a significant profit. Every home, she says, should be good for living as well as for investing.
The experience moving so many times taught her not only how to spot good properties and assess their investment potential, but also about the numerous areas she has lived in during the process. Those include Lake Highlands, Lakewood, Preston Hollow, and the Park Cities, where she and her family live now and where she also grew up.
This fourth-generation Dallasite comes by her real estate savvy naturally as the daughter of her partner, Janis Carlton Wells, who has been in the business for 26 years. The successful multi-million dollar team serves buyers and sellers equally. Betsy’s clients range from families looking for first and second homes to out-of-state executives moving into the area.
Betsy is, by her own admission, “over the top” on details. Such precision work is helpful in negotiating contracts as well as in evaluating what could work best financially for buyers and sellers. That has included working up a detailed cost analysis on the advisability of renovating a property versus selling it and moving on.
When asked what she enjoys about the business of real estate, her first answer is her love of people and of serving them. She also enjoys working with homes that possess inherent architectural character.
Betsy is a graduate of the University of Mississippi with a bachelor’s degree in Special Education. After graduation, she taught at her alma mater, Highland Park High School.
She is a dedicated volunteer, currently serving at Bradfield Elementary School (where her two sons are in school), at Children’s Medical Center, and at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, where she and her family are active members.
Betsy is married to Brad Cameron and is the mother of two children.
