The 2014 Park Cities’ Track Meet a Huge Success.
(SUMMARY) The Park Cities YMCA held its annual track meet this past Saturday, May 10th, at SMU. More than 1,000 boys and girls from the 1st – 6th grade participated in a combination of running and field events including relay races. The track meet started at 8:00am when 296 girls in the 3rd and 4th grades began participating on teams from Armstrong, Bradfield, Hyer, UP, Christ the King, ESD, and Providence elementary schools. Throughout the day groups of 3rd and 4th grade boys and 1st and 2nd grade girls and boys rotated into the meet to perform their individual and team events. The track meet concluded around 8:30pm with the 5th and 6th grade girls’ and boys’ teams. A total of 5 existing track meet records dating back to 1980 were either tied or broken during the full day of competition.
The Park Cities YMCA was honored to again sponsor this annual event for the community to further demonstrate its overall mission of youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Longtime favorite Track Meet Referee Matt Feldman summed up the day best in saying, “Getting to spend a day with over a thousand young Park Cities athletes is a highlight of my year. I hope they had as much fun at the PCYMCA Community Track Meet as I did.”
