Registration for University Park Public Library’s popular summer program, UP with Reading! starts May 25th from 5:30 to 7:30pm at Splash Bash at the Holmes Aquatics Center.  Toddlers to teens are encouraged to register!  Other than at Splash Bash, readers can register at the library, online at www.universityparkpubliclibrary.readsquared.com, or at the City of University’s Fishing Derby on June 2nd at Caruth Park from 9am to noon.  Young readers can report hours from May 25th through July 26th.  Prizes may be picked up through August 25th. 

Registered young readers can have fun at activities throughout June and July.  All activities, featuring special guests, will take place at the library on Wednesdays, beginning at 3pm*.  The lineup includes a storyteller, squirmy animals, a karate demonstration, and a magician.   *The June 27th program will begin at 2pm.

This summer’s UP with Reading theme is “Level UP with Reading.” Each registered participant will be given a game token to hang in the library.

Prizes will be awarded for 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 hours of reading as hours are achieved:

  • A yard sign for each family with registered readers

  • Certificate of completion and a backpack tag

  • Color-changing straw and a Pixel tattoo

  • Pixel tote bag and a deck of pixel playing cards

  • Chipotle Certificate and a book donated to charity in the child’s name*

  • Each child who reads 50 or more hours will be entered into prize drawings

*The University Park Public Library is proud to partner with the Highland Park Public Library in donating books to Trinity River Mission, a literacy-based organiztion. 

The HPISD school whose students collectively read the most hours will be awarded the Readers Cup trophy.  University Park Elementary is the current champion.
