Howdy! ICYMI, Pete and I just got back from one of the most memorable trips I've ever taken: a 10-night Regent Seven Seas cruise on the Seven Seas Grandeur, sailing the Storied Scandinavia itinerary from Stockholm to Oslo. We set sail on August 29 and disembarked on September 8, 2026, and I am still daydreaming about it and the 70 degree weather!
If you've been eyeing a Scandinavia cruise and wondering whether a luxury line is worth it, this post is for you. I'm sharing the itinerary, what life onboard is really like, my best planning tips, and everything I'd tell a friend before she books. Grab a coffee (or a glass of something bubbly) and let's dive in!
Storied Scandinavia Cruise at a Glance

Here's the quick rundown if you're comparing options:
- Cruise line: Regent Seven Seas Cruises
- Ship: Seven Seas Grandeur (about 746 guests)
- Itinerary: Storied Scandinavia, Stockholm to Oslo
- Sailing dates: August 29 – September 8, 2026 (10 nights)
- Countries: Sweden, Germany, Denmark and Norway
- Best for: Travelers who love culture, history, great food, and a slower, more polished pace (that's me and Pete :-))
Why I Chose Regent Seven Seas for Scandinavia

I've always loved the idea of Northern Europe, but I wanted to see multiple countries without repacking a suitcase every other day. A cruise is the perfect answer. You unpack once, wake up in a new city, and your luxury hotel comes with you. Fun fact: We have done a similar itinerary before on this trip so we knew we would love this part of Europe.
Regent is known as one of the most inclusive luxury cruise lines, and that was a big draw for us. The fare includes things like specialty restaurants, 24-hour room service, room attendants/butler that cater to your every need, free unlimited shore excursions, and beverages (a few premium wines carry an extra charge). When you're traveling in Scandinavia, where a single lunch out can make your wallet cry, having that much built in is a huge relief. My motto for travel is splurge and save wherever it works best, and this felt like a smart place to splurge.
Tip: Because so much is included, compare the total price of a luxury all-inclusive cruise against a mainstream fare plus add-ons before you decide. The gap is often smaller than you'd think. Your room category will also play a part in this equation. We were in a Serenity Suite (F1). All suites on the Regent Grandeur have a verandah. The Storied Scandinavia Itinerary, Port by Port

This route hits four capital-and-coastal stops with sea days sprinkled in so you can actually catch your breath. Here's how the itinerary breaks down.
Stockholm, Sweden
Stockholm is a gorgeous place to begin. The city is spread across 14 islands, so water is everywhere you look. Highlights include the cobblestone lanes of Gamla Stan (the old town), the Royal Palace, the Vasa Museum with its remarkably preserved 17th-century warship, and the ABBA Museum if you're a music fan. A stroll along the Strandvägen waterfront is a lovely way to see how Stockholmers spend a summer evening.
Tip: Arrive a day early if you can. Starting your cruise rested, rather than jet-lagged, makes a real difference. We always do this and get a goon nights sleep before freshing up and heading to the port to embark on our adventure.
Warnemünde, Germany (Berlin)
Warnemünde is a charming seaside town with a sandy beach, a historic lighthouse, and the pretty Alter Strom promenade lined with cafés and fish stands. It's also your gateway for bigger day trips, including nearby Rostock or even Berlin if you want a long, ambitious day. I loved having this stop as a change of pace between two big capital cities. This is the port by which you can do many excursions to the northern region of Germany and how we did Berlin.
Copenhagen, Denmark
Copenhagen may be the most photogenic stop on the route. Think colorful Nyhavn harbor, Rosenborg Castle, the Little Mermaid statue, and the twinkling Tivoli Gardens. The city is easy to explore on foot or by bike, and the food scene is fantastic. If you're a coffee and pastry person like me, you'll be very happy here.
Kristiansand and Oslo, Norway
The cruise ends in Oslo, and it's a great finale. Don't miss the Oslo Opera House (you can walk right up onto the roof), Vigeland Sculpture Park, the Viking Ship Museum area, Akershus Fortress, and the lively Aker Brygge waterfront. Norway is pricey, so this is one more reason those included excursions are so appreciated. We also docked in Kristiansand, Norway before ending in Oslo and it is one of the most scenic and charming ports.
Days at Sea
Yes, you'll have some sea days, and no, that's not wasted time. They're when the ship really shines: a spa treatment, a long lunch, a show in the evening, or simply a book on your balcony. Sea days are what turn a busy sightseeing trip into a true vacation. This is when we tend to play trivia, enjoy happy hour and explore the ship. We had the good fortune to have lunch with Captain Luciano Montesanto and get a private tour of the bridge. Fascinating!
Note: Ports, arrival times and overnight stays can change by sailing, so always confirm your exact schedule with Regent or your travel advisor before you go.
Life Onboard the Seven Seas Grandeur

With only 746 guests, Grandeur feels intimate rather than crowded. There are no big lines, no rushing, and the crew-to-guest ratio means service is attentive without being stuffy.
The Suites
Every stateroom is a suite with a private balcony, which makes waking up to a Scandinavian harbor feel very special. There are 15 suite categories, from the Deluxe Veranda and Veranda Suites at around 361 square feet up to the show-stopping Regent Suite. Even the entry-level categories feel roomy and thoughtfully designed. We were in a Serenity Suite and it was amazing!
The Dining
Food is where Regent really wins me over. Grandeur offers eight dining experiences, including five complimentary restaurants: Compass Rose for the main dining room, Prime 7 for steaks (and the famous Popcorn desert), Chartreuse for French cuisine, Pacific Rim for Asian flavors, and La Veranda for a more casual bite. Regent created roughly 130 new dishes just for this ship, so even seasoned cruisers will find something fresh. And 24-hour room service is included for those nights you'd rather stay in or your breakfast. Also, there is a restaurant a the pool (covered) that offers freshly made pizza to order if you are feeling a bit more casual.
Tip: Reserve your specialty restaurants as early as you can. Popular nights fill up quickly.
The Art and the Extras
Here's a fun fact: Grandeur has a collection of roughly 1,600 pieces of art, described as the largest at sea, including a Fabergé egg on permanent display. You can also join a cooking class in the ship's Culinary Arts Kitchen, catch a show in the Constellation Theatre, or unwind in the spa.
Free Unlimited Shore Excursions
One of my favorite Regent perks is that shore excursions are included, with thousands of options across the line's itineraries. On a route like this, it means you can pair a guided city tour with time to explore on your own, without watching the price tags add up. And the tour guides are experts in history and their region. We always learn so much!
Tip: Excursions can book up, so browse the options before you sail and sign up early for anything you don't want to miss. And leave room for some free wandering. Some of my favorite moments on any trip are the unplanned ones.
What to Wear on a Northern European Cruise
I get asked this every time, so here's the short version. Late August and early September in Scandinavia brings temperatures typically in the 60s and 70s, with a chance of rain, so layers are your best friend. Pack comfortable walking shoes, a light rain jacket, and a scarf or wrap. In the evenings, Regent leans elegant and dressy-casual (no jeans after 6 PM), so bring dinner looks you feel great in.
I put together a full breakdown, so be sure to read What I Wore on a Northern European Luxury Cruise for my daytime looks, dinner looks and travel outfits from this exact trip. It's the best place to start when you're building your suitcase. Note: Dress code for dinner is no jeans after 6 PM. Plan accordingly.
My Top Tips Before You Book

Here's what I'd tell you over coffee:
- Book early. Regent's smaller ships mean fewer suites, and the best categories sell out.
- Choose your suite with intention. If you love watching the harbor, a balcony on the side facing the port can be a nice bonus.
- Consider extra days. Adding a night or two in Stockholm before, or Oslo after, lets you see more without rushing.
- Pack for four seasons in one day. Layers and a rain jacket are a must. Regent has umbrellas for you and we used them often. My full packing and outfit picks are in What I Wore on a Northern European Luxury Cruise.
- Bring a small day bag. You'll want your camera, layers and a water bottle handy in port. Regent provides the water bottles.
- Confirm your details. Check passport requirements, flights and excursion times with your travel advisor or Regent directly.
Is a Regent Scandinavia Cruise Worth It?

For us, absolutely. This itinerary gives you four beautiful countries, a graceful pace, and the kind of service that makes you feel taken care of from the moment you step onboard. If you like history, water views, cozy cafés and beautiful design, Storied Scandinavia checks every box. It's especially wonderful if you want a trip that feels both adventurous and relaxing.
Is it for everyone? If you love late-night party ships or waterslides, another line may suit you better. But if you want refined, inclusive and easy, Regent is hard to beat!
Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the Storied Scandinavia cruise? The sailing I took was 10 nights, from August 29 to September 8, 2026, traveling from Stockholm to Oslo. This is the perfect length for us. I get antsy if I am gone more than 2 weeks at one time.

What ship does this itinerary sail on? The Seven Seas Grandeur, one of Regent's newest ships, carrying about 746 guests. However, we have been on other Regent ships and they are all excellent! What's included in a Regent fare? Specialty dining, 24-hour room service, free unlimited shore excursions and beverages are included, with a few premium wines at an extra charge. Check Regent's current offer for the latest details.
What is the best time of year for a Scandinavia cruise? Summer and early fall offer pleasant temperatures and long daylight hours, which is why late August and September sailings are so popular. Check out this trip we did to the Baltic Sea region in June.
