Fur Ball Chairs John and Lana Payne welcomed dozens of SPCA of Texas donors and sponsors into their home for a Gift Giving Party on June 5, 2019. The group donated some great live and silent auction items for Fur Ball 2019 and they helped raise money to go towards the auction. Thanks to everyone at the party who came together to help purchase a Mediterranean Cuisine Cruise package valued at $9,600!

We are very excited for all of the packages that will be available at this year’s Fur Ball, which includes a trip to Las Vegas to see Lady Gaga in concert, a trip to the Westminster Dog Show in New York, and other remarkable packages! Thank you to our wonderful Auction Chairs Sandra Fite and Julia Howard, Auction Co-Chair Amber Camper and their Auction Committee for working so hard to create these amazing items. We also want to thank Fur Ball Chairs John and Payne, their children and co-chairs, Katherine and Jacob Payne for opening up their home for the Gift Giving Party.

The SPCA of Texas will be participating in the ASPCA's (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) national Help a Horse Home Equine Adoption Challenge, competing for a chance to win some of $150,000 available in grant prizes. The nationwide competition kicks off tomorrow, April 26 and runs through Sunday, June 30.

This two-month-long competition for equine rescues, shelters and sanctuaries is designed to increase adoptions of equines across the country and raise awareness about the lifesaving work that these organizations do to prepare horses for good homes. The SPCA of Texas will be competing against more than 170 organizations for prizes that will be given to the groups who adopt out more equines than they did last year during the same period. To learn more about the SPCA of Texas' Equine and Livestock department follow their Facebook page. To see all available horses, visit www.spca.org/findapet.

The Help a Horse Home Challenge kicks off on April 26, a date chosen for its significance to the ASPCA’s long history of horse protection. In 1866, ASPCA founder Henry Bergh stopped a cart driver from beating his horse, resulting in the first successful arrest for the mistreatment of a horse on April 26 of that year. Each year the ASPCA hosts a national grant competition to elevate the work of equine rescues that help at-risk horses who have been abused, neglected or are homeless. Since 2014, the ASPCA has awarded equine groups more than $300,000 in grant funding through this competition.
