At first glance (and possibly second!), Motown & Mozart might seem like an odd pairing. Well…it is! But a perfect pairing, nonetheless!
The concert will feature a performance of Mozart’s masterpiece-in-miniature, his Serenade No. 10, K. 361, the
Gran Partita, scored for 13 winds and double bass – a work that almost single-handedly elevated wind performance from incidental music to concert music. True to the title, the show will also include a rhythmic romp through the Motor City, with a medley of hits by the legends of Motown – Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross and the Supremes, the Temptations and the Jackson 5.
