Returning November 14 through January 3, The Trains at NorthPark

Will Bring its 33rd Annual Haul of Holiday Hope

With the holidays just around the bend, The Trains at NorthPark is coming to town, hauling joy by the carload starting November 14, 2020 through January 3, 2021. Benefiting Ronald McDonald of Dallas (RMHD) and presented by Bank of Texas, The Trains at NorthPark 2020 is being conducted this year, with extensive Covid-19 safety precautions, with the help of Honorary Chair Sandy Phillips, a long-time RMHD volunteer, alongside co-chairs Andrea Cheek and Laura Losinger.  This year, the 2020 event will also honor four-year old Deborah Najarro from El Salvador as the season’s very special Kid Conductor. Deborah was born without her left extremities and has been staying at RMHD with her family since March 2020.

“The imminent arrival of The Trains at NorthPark has given our families and staff a new cause for hope as we look forward to the joy of this holiday season,” said Jill Cumnock, Chief Executive Officer of RMHD. “More than $13 million has been raised for the over 39,000 families of seriously ill children we’ve served, and it’s done by bringing smiles to the faces of those who visit this nationally recognized holiday attraction.”

The largest miniature train exhibit in Texas with 1,600-foot of tracks set against a charming and elaborate variety of holiday landscapes, The Trains will once again include over 700 railcars bearing the names of the companies, organizations, families, and individuals that make the attraction possible. Featuring glittering and intricately detailed cityscapes like Dallas, New York and San Francisco set among other highlights like New England’s fall foliage, the Grand Canyon, and Route 66, the Trains features beloved holiday characters and hidden scenes throughout the display.

Precautions in place for COVID-19 will adhere to state and local government guidelines, including masks for staff, volunteers, and guests, except for those under three. Interaction will be limited for safety, with the attraction only allowing one-way traffic and restricted capacities, as well as regular and rigorous cleanings. Those wanting to avoid peak holiday traffic are encouraged to come earlier in the season, especially during weekdays.

Tickets for the 2020 event will only be available online, and the exhibit remains at its 2019 location on the second floor of NorthPark Center near Nordstrom. Supporters can still buy customized railcars in support of the House, with available 2020 options including a variety of standard railcars for $200, a caboose for $250, a special edition Tangerine Orange Passenger Car for $300, and an engine for $350.

In honor of the month of love, Ronald McDonald House of Dallas (RMHD) is offering a limited release of customizable heART Locks that will be displayed at the House’s new heART installation permanently. Revealed when RMHD opened The Dekelboum Family Foundation Wing, the heART installation is a 9-foot wide red metal heart that will eventually feature 400 customized heART locks highlighting the individuals and families that support the House through the campaign.

“Purchasing a heART lock is such a fun and meaningful way to show your support for the House, and a terrific way to honor loved ones while receiving permanent recognition,” said Jill Cumnock, Chief Executive Officer of RMHD. “These heART locks will be displayed for years to come as we continue to serve generations of families as they deal with the challenges of children needing medical treatment. Every name they see at the House evidences another individual invested in their well-being, and that sense of shared love makes a difference.”

Ronald McDonald House of Dallas Opens R2S Donation Drop in Frisco

Residents of Frisco and Surrounding Areas Can Now Support the Families Staying at The House While Their Children are Being Treated for Critical Illnesses and Injuries

 RMDH Dallas

Recycling 2 Support (R2S) has opened a donation drop off center in Frisco that benefits Ronald McDonald House of Dallas (RMHD). Located at 10601 Ohio Drive, this R2S location will allow residents of Frisco and its surrounding areas to support the mission of RMHD directly by donating unwanted clothing and household items. R2S pays RMHD by the pound for items dropped off at the center, these items are then sold in their thrift stores or repurposed in other ecological ways.

“We are the Ronald McDonald House of Dallas, which reflects our physical location in Dallas and speaks to the hundreds of families we care for from all over the state of Texas and beyond. Since 2018, our care area actually extends to local families whose children are being treated at our RMHD Family Room at Texas Scottish Rite for Children in Frisco.  This drop-off center is an ideal way for our Frisco community to support RMHD,” said Jill Cumnock, Chief Executive Officer of RMHD. “Our partnership with R2S invites those in our geographical service area to be a part of creating the caring community we provide to more than 1,400 families each year – and to do so by simply donating items they no longer need.”

R2S works to prevent unwanted clothing and household items from ending up in landfills by providing a convenient and eco-friendly way of disposing them. It has been recycling textiles and household items since 1986, and maintains a passion for raising awareness of how the apparel and textile industries affect the environment. Promoting a greener future by educating and involving communities like Frisco in landfill diversion and sustainability, R2S works collaboratively with nonprofits like RMHD to reduce carbon footprints, to create jobs that fuel the economy, and to provide support through funding. R2S also offers convenient pick up service to homeowners who simply visithttps://rmhdallas.org/get-involved/donate to schedule a pick-up.

RMHD serves as a home-away-from-home to families while their children are being treated for critical illnesses or serious injuries in the Dallas area. The House has served more than 38,000 families in its nearly 40-year history, and while families are asked to contribute a mere $15 per night to their stay, no family is ever turned away for an inability to pay. In 2018, RMHD also opened its first-ever Family Room, located at Scottish Rite for Children Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Center in Frisco, to provide a special place of respite, relaxation, comfort, and privacy to families with children receiving outpatient care.

The RMHD R2S Drop officially opened on Saturday, February 1, and is now open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Make plans to get sidetracked from your holiday shopping when The Trains at NorthPark returns Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019 for a seven-week run through Sunday, Jan. 5, 2020. Benefiting Ronald McDonald House of Dallas (RMHD) and once again presented by Bank of Texas, The Trains at NorthPark welcomes more than 70,000 visitors to Dallas’ favorite shopping destination each season to revel in the magical display and show their support for the House.

With 1,600-foot of tracks, The Trains at NorthPark features glittering and intricately detailed cityscapes like Dallas, New York, Washington, D.C., and San Francisco set among other highlights like New England’s fall foliage, the Grand Canyon, and Route 66. All throughout are beloved holiday characters and hidden scenes.

The largest miniature train exhibit in Texas will debut in a brand-new space to showcase the more than 700 railcars featuring the corporations, organizations, families, and individuals who make the seasonal attraction possible. Since its launch in 1987, The Trains has helped raise more than $13 million for RMHD and has a bigger-than-ever fundraising goal this year to help the House serve an additional 50 percent more families annually.

“We’re already feeling the joy of the season with The Dekelboum Family Foundation Wing, our just-opened expansion that allows us to serve an additional 800 families each year,” said Jill Cumnock, Chief Executive Officer of RMHD. “The last thing we ever want to say is ‘we have no room’, and, as our largest annual fundraiser, The Trains at NorthPark makes sure we don’t have to while also spreading holiday cheer to our supporters of all ages.”

In 2018, RMHD hosted over 1,400 families while their children were being treated for critical illnesses and injuries in the Dallas area. Unfortunately, they also had to turn away nearly 800 families because the House was at full capacity. With the 18,000 square-foot addition offering six larger suites for longer-stay families and 24 new guest rooms, RMHD has significantly increased its program access, as well as its operating costs.

Several members of the community have already shown their support, including Lindy Berkley and Jill Harvey, this year’s Chairs, and long-time supporter Sandra Estess, who is serving as Honorary Chair. Many have already purchased the hundreds of customized railcars, engines, and cabooses that will hit the tracks in support of the House. Still available options for 2019 include a standard railcar for $200, a caboose for $250, a special edition cherry red baggage car for $300, or an engine for $350.

Ribbon Cutting!

There was much to celebrate on October 10, when Ronald McDonald House Dallas (RMHD) cut the ribbon to open The Dekelboum Family Foundation Wing. The $11.5 million expansion at RMHD offers 30 new guest rooms, allowing RMHD to serve 800 more families a year while their children are being treated for critical illnesses or injuries in the Dallas area. In 2018, RMHD hosted over 1,400 families, but had to turn away nearly 800 families because the House was at full capacity.

The 18,000 square-foot two-story addition, designed by HKS Architects and built by Hill & Wilkinson, includes two stunning art installations, six larger suites for longer-stay families and 24 guest rooms. Donors, including AbbVie with its lead gift of $4.5 million, along with long-time supporters of the House and past and current Families came out to share the joy in the opening of the much-needed new addition.
