It seems we are always talking about food in the office and was I stunned when Brady mentioned having a crockpot recipe for a Maid-Rite sandwich. Maid-Rite sandwiches are popular in the midwest and I have personally had them in a small town — Quincy, Illinois — and loved them. It's a loose meat sandwich, but not really a sloppy joe, that is seasoned perfectly and just "made right." I can't explain it but you just need to try it and your kids will love them.
Brady's Recipe for Maid Rite Sandwich
- 3 lbs Ground Beef
- 1 small onion
- 1 beef bouillon cube
- 1 chicken bouillon cube
- 1.5 cups of water
- 2 tbs brown sugar
- 2 tbs apple cider vinegar
- 2 tbs Worcesterschire sauce
- 1 tbs soy sauce
- Hamburger Buns - Don't go fancy
- Pickles
- Mustard
Add the first nine ingredients to the crockpot and stir together to break up the ground beef.
Cook on high for 4 hours. Check on occassionaly to keep the beef from clumping together. Remember, it is a loose meat sandwich.
Serve on hamburger buns and add mustard, pickle, mayo, ketchup as desired. Some add cheese, but give it a zap in the microwave to melt it a little.
