This are great for Christmas Cookies.  One year I made a bunch of dough up and rolled it in wax paper, froze it and gave a Christmas Gifts...  Basically, I made a ton to make for Christmas and didn't get around to it..   Sort of improvised... 

1-cup               brown sugar

½ cup              melted butter

1                      egg

1 ¾ cup           flour sifted

½ teaspoon    baking soda

¼ teaspoon    salt

1-teaspoon     vanilla extract

1-cup               walnuts 

Mix together all ingredients.  Pat into an oblong shape.  You can roll it in the wax paper to make a tube.  Refrigerate for few hours or overnight.  May even be frozen for later use.

Cut into thin slices (1/8”) and place on an ungreased cookie sheet.  Bake at 375 for 10 minutes.
