Providence's New Playground

On October 20, Providence students in Classes One to Four arrived at school with eager anticipation to finally test out what had been under construction for months: their new playground. Equipped with a turf surface to keep the mud away, the playground consists of the latest play equipment including monkey bars, two slides, a side-by-side dual glider, a climbing web, and a Supernova, which is a modern version of a merry-go-round.

Jill McClung, Providence’s director of development and communications, welcomed the students to the dedication. “The day has finally come. The new playground is complete and ready for you to test it out. We have several people to thank: God, because He has protected us and provided for our needs; our parents, grandparents, teachers, and alumni who gave money to our annual fund to buy this new equipment; and all those who built it.”

At the sound of a whistle, students ran to the equipment and their shouts of joy attested to the success of the project. Abe Woods, Class Four student, said, “It’s great having a new playground and being the first ones to play on it.”

A special thanks to Providence’s Carol Chester, Marin Stone, Don Gailey, building manager, and his helpers, Herman Sample, J.R. Netherland, and Zach Zajack who spent extra time helping and working with the crew who built the playground.

After they played, students and teachers gathered to sing, “This is the Day That the Lord Hath Made,” and closed in a prayer of thanksgiving and dedication. “We pray for the safety of all who will play here –both now and for many years to come. We thank you for fun, for being able to run, jump, climb, and enjoy the outdoors. We thank you for friends and classmates to play with –may we always treat them kindly while we play here. Thank you for this blessing and for the sacrifices and gifts of others who have made this possible.”
