Sam Utay and Christine McKenny passed along the word to us about Children's Medical Center's Adopt-A-Family holiday program, and we think it's a great cause that our readers should know about:

Adopt-A-Family, coordinated by the Children’s Medical Center social work department, is a holiday gift program that directly benefits the hospital’s patients and their families. Every family in the Adopt-A-Family program has a child being treated at Children’s for a chronic, critical, or terminal illness. Without your help, these families would not be able to provide holiday gifts for their children.

How it works: Any individual, family, classroom, Boy/Girl Scout troop, office, etc. can adopt a family. Once you sign up, you will then be given your adopted family’s gift wish list from which to do your shopping, or if you prefer, you can give gift cards so that the family members can do their own holiday shopping. All gifts must be dropped off at a designated location on Friday, Dec. 13, 2013

To learn more: Please e-mail adoptafamily@childrens.com with your contact information, and details including how you can adopt a family will be provided.
