DALLAS, TEXAS – First accredited in 2007, the Weight Loss Surgery Program at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas was once again recognized as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence.

Designated by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the accreditation is part of the society’s Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Quality and Improvement Program and is considered one of the highest distinctions for weight loss programs in the United States.

“This is an honor and a true reflection of the hard work of our entire team,” said Dr. James Davidson, bariatric surgery medical director at Texas Health Dallas. “Receiving this designation assures our patients that each person involved in their care has a special interest and training in bariatrics.”

Every three years standards such as quality and safety metrics, education, cost analysis and surgical volumes are reviewed. In addition, the accrediting body requires the use of a multi-disciplinary team including a bariatric coordinator and dietitian as well as established support groups to provide ongoing encouragement for the patients.

“Consistency in follow-up care is beneficial to a successful outcome for our patients,” said Toya White, NP, bariatric coordinator for the Weight Loss Surgery Program at Texas Health Dallas. “Each and every member of our team is here to offer guidance and support through each patient’s weight loss journey.”
