We heard multiple reports from parents of Highland Park High School students and saw Twitter confirmation that the school was evacuated more than once Tuesday morning due to a triggered fire alarm.

Park Cities mom and former BubbleLife contributor Elise McVeigh has a son who is a student at the school, and he reported seeing multiple fire trucks outside HPHS.

District officials sent an email notification at 11:17 a.m. Tuesday, saying that the cause of the incident was a "malfunctioning transformer on the roof."

HPHS students and faculty are safe, HPISD said, but portions of the school still don't have power. See the full note from the district below:

Dear HPHS Parents and Staff,

A fire alarm was triggered at Highland Park High School at 10:15 a.m. today.  Students and staff were evacuated quickly and safely.

The cause was determined to be a malfunctioning transformer on the roof that resulted in smoke being drawn into the band hall section of the building by the air conditioning.

Students have returned to class. Sections of the building are without power, and the issue is being addressed.
