The City of University Park and the Snider Plaza Merchants Association have decided to cancel Sunday afternoon's 7th Annual Snider Plaza Christmas Tree Lighting due to expected inclement weather.

"Those directly involved with event preparations had been monitoring forecasts closely. Freezing precipitation and chill factors below 32 degrees are likely Sunday. Given these probable conditions, event organizers were concerned about the comfort and safety of those attending or participating in the festivities," city spokesman Steve Mace said.

The lighting ceremony will not be rescheduled.
