This year’s book donation recipient organization for the Highland Park Library’s Summer Reading Club is Readers 2 Leaders.  When children completed their Summer Reading Club reading logs, they picked out a book to donate in their name to Readers 2 Leaders.  On September 16, Pam Hatcher and Kortney Nelson, staff members from the Highland Park Library, delivered the donated books to Booktown, which is Readers 2 Leaders' family literacy center on Singleton Blvd. in West Dallas.

Relational, community-based and research-driven, Readers 2 Leaders helps children in West Dallas develop the reading and language skills needed to become lifelong readers, learners and leaders.  Readers 2 Leaders' services are provided at Booktown and at five Dallas ISD elementary schools.  Parent Prep, Saturday Storytimes, tutoring, after-school programs and summer camps are just some of the ways Booktown serves its community.  The books donated through the Summer Reading Club will grow the Lending Library at Booktown for families deterred from public library use by fear of overdue fines.  For more information on Readers 2 Leaders, please visit www.readers2leaders.org.

Special thanks to the Friends of the Highland Park Library for funding the book donation program again this year.
