World-renowned sitar maestro Aloke Dasgupta will bring his talents to Texas for a special performance of Indian and Eastern music with Dallas-based world music group Impending Bloom Floating Ensemble at the Crow Collection of Asian Art Saturday, December 10, from 7:30 – 9 p.m.

Often regarded as one of the most outstanding and original sitar players in the North Indian Classical style, Dasgupta has played and recorded with artists including Ravi Shankar, Mick Jagger, Eric Clapton, Pandit V.G. Jog, Cheap Trick and Gwen Stefani. With a maturity of style and composition, he draws the nostalgic sounds of past sitar greats while revealing an awareness of contemporary, international movements such as jazz, new age and world music. Dasgupta studied sitar in India under renowned master Ustad Ali Akbar Kahn and currently resides in Los Angeles.

Impending Bloom Floating Ensemble explores a beautifully eclectic blend of exotic musical instruments. The five-member group features Don Vitsentzos on esraj and guitar, Craig Shropshire on udu pottery drums and kanjira, Cornell Kinderknecht on bansuri flute and sax, Mark Menikos on violin and baritone mandolin, and Martin McCall on kit drums and percussion.
