Top 2014 Fundraisers for the Walk to Cure Arthritis in the dugout at Globe Life Park.

North Texans Join Together to Celebrate National Arthritis Month and  Fight Nation's Leading Cause of Disability

Today, the Arthritis Foundation announced that it will return to Globe Life Park in Arlington for the second consecutive year for its signature community-wide walk on Saturday, May 9.  The Walk to Cure Arthritis North Texas is the Arthritis Foundation’s annual community fundraising 5K walk event which attracts participants of all ages and abilities from across the Dallas-Ft. Worth area.  For info and to register, visit www.walktocurearthritisnorthtx.org.

“Whether you have a family member or loved one who suffers from arthritis, or are simply looking for a walking or running event for charity, the Walk to Cure Arthritis North Texas is a great way to get moving in support of a worthwhile cause,” said Annie Carter, Community Development Manager, Arthritis Foundation South Central Region.

Walk to Cure Arthritis is the Arthritis Foundation’s largest annual fundraising event, with local events hosted by more than 100 cities nationwide.  Funds raised through the event support Arthritis Foundation programs, research, and advocacy initiatives to help people live better today while finding a cure for the number one cause of disability in the United States tomorrow.

“Arthritis affects people of all ages from nine months to 90 years of age, and the debilitating symptoms are devastating," said Carter. "We are encouraging everyone in the North Texas community to participate in this year's Walk to Cure Arthritis North Texas in honor of a family member, friend or the millions of adults and children living in disabling pain. The funds raised during the Walk to Cure Arthritis North Texas help support critical Arthritis Foundation research and programs to improve the quality of life and help find a cure for all people living with arthritis," she said.

The local Walk unites the North Texas community to put an end to arthritis, a chronic disease that affects more than 50 million adults in the U.S. and approximately 1.8 million North Texans.  It features family-fun festivities including kid play zones, food trucks, VIP and Team Tailgates, a Juvenile Arthritis Clubhouse, a pet-friendly environment for dogs, and so much more. Event registration is free. Event-goers who fundraise $100 or more will earn this year’s official Walk t-shirt and even have a chance to have their pictures taken in the ballpark dugout. More fundraising incentive prizes are detailed online at www.walktocurearthritisnorthtx.org.

According to the Arthritis Foundation, it’s not too early to start forming a team for the Walk to Cure Arthritis North Texas in May.  The Foundation encourages North Texans to get their company involved or recruit friends and family members to form a Walk team and inspire others to increase their physical mobility to prevent or treat arthritis.

“Team participation is fun and easy by registering online,” said Carter.  “A team can be a group of walkers joining together to raise money to fight arthritis, best of all the Foundation will provide support and information to help motivate and inspire your group to excel. Let's walk together, support each other and raise funds to find a cure for arthritis!”

The Walk to Cure Arthritis North Texas is scheduled for Saturday, May 9 at Globe Life Park in Arlington.   8:30 a.m. Onsite Registration; 10:00 a.m. Walk.
