The Covenant School received first place in the TAPPS 2A State Art competition last week. This is the seventh time Covenant has taken first in the last nine years. Art Department Head Libby Albritton was named the TAPPS 2A Fine Arts Teacher of the Year last year, and her success has continued this year.
Senior Mary Katherine Mountjoy took two first places, completed her 1st AP portfolio for college credit as a sophomore and received a 5, the highest score possible. She has been accepted at The University of Texas into the advertising department.
Junior Samuel Boyne placed 4th in Communication Design, 1st in Sculpture, 3rd in Sculpture, 1st in 3D mixed media, 3rd in 3D mixed media, & 5th in Product Design. He created a book combining poetry that he wrote with unique figures and images for his 2D AP portfolio as a sophomore, scoring a 5. He also submitted a piece from that body of work for the Congressional Art Competition and is currently working on his 3D AP portfolio.
These are a just a few examples of the excellence in the art department led by Libby Albritton. She has been an inspiration to her students and has led them in their creative endeavors. She said, “This win came from a wide variety of students including 10th graders to AP level seniors. The classical curriculum creates students who love to explore a variety of mediums to express a high-level thinking that is encouraged by their rigorous studies.”
Congratulations to Libby Albritton and her art students for their accomplishment!
