Providence Texas Day 2013 Mrs. Megan Douglass' Class Three students at Texas Day.

Even the rain didn’t stop Class Three students from Providence Christian School and West Dallas Community School from celebrating Texas Day at Providence’s Great Hall on April 18. The students from both schools had been corresponding with each other since last fall, and there were hugs and excitement as the students met each other in person for the first time.

This special school tradition immersed Class Three students from both schools in pioneer Texas life for a day. Dressed in western wear and cowboy hats, the students learned about how Texans lived through various historic characters, who told them about what life was like when Texas was being formed. They also played old-fashioned games such as sack races and three-legged races.

Other highlights included a barbeque lunch, and a Texas sing-along with Ed Burnett and the Levee Singers leading songs such as "Deep in the Heart of Texas," "You Are My Sunshine," and "The Eyes of Texas."
