HPGL wins playoff game – Championship Bound!

For the first time in program history, #1 HP Girls’ Lacrosse is headed to the North District Championship at Coppell Middle School North at 2pm on Sunday, April 29 vs #3 ESD. #1 HPGL beat #4 McKinney to advance to the District Championship Game, also ensuring a spot at State in Austin.

The Highland Park girls jumped to an early lead against McKinney and never looked back, winning 15 to 8. Standout co-captain, Zoe Durham #22 (future Yale Bulldog), limited McKinney’s top player effectiveness while co-captain, Madeline Booth #20, forced turnover after turnover.  On the offensive side, co-captain KK Callaghan #24 (future Butler Bulldog), contributed four assists, one goal and one forced turnover.  Durham, with the help of midfielder Sloan Kipp #1 and Josie Gooch #64, controlled the middle of the field winning 80% of the draw controls and making it a difficult night for the McKinney defense. Emily Baird #44 dodged her way through the defense as Parker White #24 fed her the ball from behind for four of Baird’s five goals. Co-captain Julia Peters #26 cheered the team from the sidelines due to an ACL injury suffered in a previous game.

“We are so proud of this team!  The senior class has done a tremendous job of stepping up and leading this team.  We cannot wait for Sunday and to TAKE STATE in Austin!”  Head Coach, Lellie Cherry Swords.
